This is one of the most beautiful languages around, and it will be extinct in fifty years. The government doesn't protect like Gaelic and Welsh is protected... Our generation (20-30 years old) still speaks it, but those after us speak more dutch than something else... Don't you think that's a shame ? Is it even any use that children are still taught this language ? I think it is, what about you ?

That's Flemish, isn't it?
Europe is full of local languages and dialects, which it would be nice to protect. But that very seldom happens. The same goes for Native American, African, Aborigine, Indian, and other languages and dialects.

As for Dutch, I once commented to a Dutch woman (who spoke English) that it might be interesting to learn Dutch.
She replied, almost shocked, "Who on earth would want to speak Dutch?!"
So it doesn't sound as if Dutch has too great of a future, either, if even its native speakers prefer English or other languages.

I like Gaelic. It is shame that it may disappear. There should be a need for people (and children) to speak it though, not only school classes. But I don't know how to create a need for a language in overwhelming English everywhere around us.

A lot of ancient languages went extinct. Hyroglyphics and Cuneiform(Babylonian and Sumerian writing form) went extinct a long time ago. People stopped learning it at one point and it just dies out.

What language are you referring to? I hate to
see a language die because a culture is lost as well.
