"I'd like prints made from these slides please, what sizes are available without cropping the images? Thank you"

You want to make prints of slides... but you need to look around for a place that can do it. A lot of camera stores don't offer that service in house and will just end up sending them off to a mail order place (if that is fine then you might as well go to a wal-mart)... If you find a local place that does that in house it will take maybe a 2 days... if you take it to a place that sends it off it could be a couple of weeks or longer. So know up front that what your looking for isn't as readily available as it used to be.... Also know that some places will just use a slide scanner, to scan them and then print them out (not the best way to do it unless they have a very good scanner).

Just like you said:
(I have these slides that are very old and I want them to be printed out like a photo)
You don't have to mention the frame part, but do need to know what size you want the photo to be. Maybe 5x7 or 8x10.
He might ask if you want it on glossy or matte paper...

Just like "Dawg" says. Tell the clerk you want prints made from those slides. All you have to do is specify which size you'd like. Easiest choices would be from whatever standard sizes they offer for all other 35mm film processing.

Not at all wierd or stupid. Your wording is fine just the way it is. The more details you provide them with the more likely you are to be satisfied with the end result.

I would word it just like that. It's nice and simple and straight to the point, the sales associate would easily be able to understand what you wish to do.
