I brush with baking soda. It is just abrasive enough to take off the ick. First put on tooth paste and then press it into a small bowl (I use a little Tupperware in the bathroom) of baking soda. It does an amazing job. Your teeth will be so slick. So this is one way to help remove staining.
I also use HYDROGEN PEROXIDE. To brush with and as a mouth wash for any oral sensitivity. For Canker sores, tender gums after flossing, fever blisters, or should you bite your tongue or cheek. It is a very rapid pain killer.
Do both of these a few times a week.
It keeps your gums VERY healthy and heals things quickly and also WHITENS,,, Peroxide,,,, think about it. Do not swollow it, I got an upset stomach when I accidentally did it.

Mix 1 part mouth wash with 2 parts peroxide...(mouthwash is more for taste than anything)..do this every day at least once or twice a day. Not only does it kill off any germs in the mouth, but it really starts to whiten your teeth too. I'm an avid coffee drinker, and you can't tell.
The peroxide mixture may burn a couple times, but that is just because you may have a good amount of stuff built up inside your mouth. It goes away after the first few times.

Stay away from the professional teeth whitening procedures and from the whitening at home kits. They are using extremely toxic chemicals that can cause IRREVERSIBLE DAMAGE TO TOOTH ENAMEL and premature tooth decay.
Check out this site: http://www.naturalwhiteteeth.net - It's about how you can whiten your teeth 100% naturally. Same results but 100% safe and 1000 times cheaper.
