I have tried both ways. I think I get a bit fewew wrinkles with folding, but I am able to pack quite a bit more stuff by rolling socks, underwear, T-shirts, and other items. Best might be a combination. For example, don't roll dress pants, nice shirts, etc, fold them, but roll the items I mentioned earlier. Another think that can help is those plastic bags that let you suck the air out to compress them. This lets you pack quite a bit of stuff too.
More advice about packing is at the site below. Scrolling to the bottom will reveal more links about rolling clothes and other tips.

I travel all the time, on certain fabrics rolling does add a great deal of wrinkles, but it is the most space saving way to pack clothes. Most hotels, motels, and friends homes have an iron for a quick pass over to remove wrinkles. I always suggest not packing toiletries (shampoo, soap, shaving cream, toothpaste, etc.) unless there is a particular brand you cannot live without, instead budget to buy these at a drug store or convient store, upon arrival at your destination. If you are going overseas or somewhere like Disney World where a great deal of souveniers will be purchased, pack a small collapsable carry-on bag in your suitcase, and pack a feww outfits that you were planning to get rid of. When returning throw away those outfits or donate them to a local shelter, and use the extra bag and voila! extra space for new items from your destination. Also pack tightly, fill empty spaces with stuff. If you have a glasses case, but are wearing the glasses, put a pair of socks in there, just make use of what may be wasted space, and pack ahead of time, make sure it fits and evaluate what you really need versus what you "possibly" could need. Forgetting something is not the end of the world.
I hope some of this can help.

I always roll my clothes. Rolling does save space for me. I think folding might keep clothes more wrinkle free, but if you're careful about how you roll, there isn't a big issue.

I prefer folded. Rolling is supposed to save more space, but I guess I don't do it right. If your clothes get wrinkly, hang them in the bathroom while you shower. The steam will help to relax them. Also, unpack as soon as you get there so they aren't crammed in the suitcase the whole time.

Rolling keeps your clothes pretty wrinkle-free and creaseless. If you do it right, it can save space, especially on bulkier items. If you're really looking for space-savers, try SpaceBags, they do work fairly well and if anything spills your stuff stays dry.
