almost over, and its toiling time is through, Is there anyone to utter now a kindly word of you? Can you say tonight, in parting with the day that's slipping fast, That you helped a single brother of the many that you passed? Is a single heart rejoicing over what you did or said: Does the man whose hopes were fading, now with courage look ahead? Did you waste the day, or lose it? Was it well or sorely spent? Did you leave a trail of kindness, or a scar of discontent? As you close your eyes in slumber, do you think that God will say,
Now here is the part I have a problem with-------
"You have earned one more tomorrow by the work you did today". written by John Hall
We don't get to heaven by works. Can you put an ending on this for me please? Mmm

I love all your answers and totally agree with them. What I am trying to find is a more appropriate ending for this poem. We should take into account our behavior but realize that it is because of God that we can maintain hope in the face of adversity and treat all mankind with love, dignity and respect whether they deserve it or not. We do it for Him.

We do not get to heaven by works but through faith in Jesus Christ alone. Yet, Scriptures tell us, in James, I believe that faith without works is dead. So, if one is saved by Jesus and claims to follow Him, then one will naturally want and ache to share His loving kindness through word and deed. We are all called as Christians to offer hospitality. And biblically Jesus was speaking to offer it to the stranger...the ones you do not know. It can be thru a kind word or deed and then we do not shout from the rooftops on what we have done, cuz it is not us who did it but Christ that lives within those who follow. We will not want recognition either as all glory and honor and praise goes to the Lord!
Let us always remember that we do not get to heaven thru our works, but through Jesus Christ alone. Jesus said, "No one comes to the Father except by Me." And the bible tells us in the Old and New Testaments that no one is righteous, not one and that is why Jesus came because it is through His suffering death on the cross, that all who believe in Him are saved and made righteous. We cannot make ourselves that way. It comes only through the blood of Jesus Christ! So, if anyone is out there and believes being good, or doing good deeds is the way to heaven....I encourage you to grab a Bible, look at the index and pick out some of the words mentioned above, like 'righteous', and 'works' and also look up 'sin' and 'evil' and then go to the Scriptures listed under that word and read em all.

Well we have to have works, but there are a couple of other requirements to enter the highest degree. When you say heaven I Cor 15:40--- talkes about 3 glories in the resurrection of man, so it will depend on which one you go for. To return to the highest Celestial, we have to be baptised. "unless you are born of the water and the spirit, you can not enter the Kingdom of God" Only the celestial Kingdom will allow one to be with God.

But the scriptures also say that Gods work and his glory is to bring to pass the exaltation and eternal life of man, so I am aware that even after death a person can be baptised and that also according to Paul in 2nd Cor. 15:29. His plan is to do everything possible for us to return to him. Some Hell and damnation churches try to prove that we have to be perfect to enter heaven, and we do through the grace of Christ. I am sure that is what the Millenium is about. 1000 years to get ready to enter his kingdom with knowledge a perfecting of us. What a marvelous plan. He wants his children to succeed.

No question that works are a major part of getting back into God's kingdom. Of course sin is also a very strong consideration. We have to stop and repent. As I said earlier though, we only have to be good people to get into the Millenium. Not all who live in the Millenium will enter the Celestial Kingdom, but they will either enter the Celestial or the Terestrial Kingdom

it is the goodness of God that leads to repentance... Christ himself called the religious leaders of his day.....Snakes,hypocrits,fools because they only acted Godly when someone was watching. While it pays to be kind there still will be bad days where we didn't stop and smell the roses. Since God knows we are only human he made his mercies new everyday.............
ps. good question

It's not just knowing Jesus or doing good things, but it's doing the will of his father.

Matthew 7:21.....  “Not everyone saying to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter into the kingdom of the heavens, but the one doing the will of my Father who is in the heavens will.

Matthew 7:22-23.......Many will say to me in that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and expel demons in your name, and perform many powerful works in your name?’  And yet then I will confess to them: I never knew YOU! Get away from me, YOU workers of lawlessness.

We need to know what God's will is and do it.

Of course I have. I help people whenever I can.

And the best part is, I didn't need to believe in any god superstitions to do so.
