You should have left a note saying you were sorry but accidently hit their car, And left your name and # on the note. They would have called you and you could have either paid out of pocket for the damages or turned it over to your insurance company.

Now this poor person will never know who hit their car. Good job!

So, in other words, you struck somebody elses vehicle with your own and did nothing? You left the scene of an accident. How do you know the passerby didn't get your license plate number and report you to the police? That's what I would have done. At the very least, you should have left a note on the other car with your name and insurance information on it. The right thing to do would have been to wait there until the other driver returned and given them the information on purpose. You damaged someone elses vehicle! How would you feel if someone had done the same to you?

Leave a note with your contact information. You don't have to wait around for the person, a note is fine. That's the honest and responsible thing to do. Most likely if it's a small scratch it can be buffed out by a body shop for very little money.

I'm going to assume that you drive an SUV. I've been sideswiped and backed-into 4 times by women in SUV's simply because they had difficulty gauging the size of the vehicle. I'd suggest you need to get a smaller car.

A note with an email address/maybe a cell number is best. Try to avoid giving your address out, because you never know what will set someone off... even the smallest of things. I am an insurance agent, and i even tell that to my insureds. The right thing to do is yes let someone know you dinged their car, and would like to work out some sort of arrangement to make things right. The fact that its done... if you have no way of rectifying the situation now, concentrate on your hubby and getting back out of the doghouse, as for the strangers car, they have insurance (or by golly they should), that will cover this. Further, you could always place an ad or two in the paper looking for them, or post something in the business' close to where the accident happened.

You could be in real trouble if the parking lot had surveillance as you would be leaving the scene of an accident. You should have definitely left contact info. Contact the store and see if they filed a complaint, etc. about the accident and get it taken care of. What if you were on the other end and it was your car that got damaged. What would you want that person to do?

Just wait and tell the person, dont be an A**hole and leave. How would you feel if it was your car?? Someone just did this to my truck and left. Have the kindness to let someone know that you made a mistake and your willing to fix it.

You should have left a note with details of your contact number and your cars reg. Someone may well have taken your reg anyway and you will hear from his company in due course
