(i tried to break this up some so it's not a wall of text)

A few nights ago I had a very vivid dream. It started in some kind of school that was in a remote location in the woods. I walked out of the school and walked past an old man groundskeeper and said hi.

I kept going and ended up going down a sharp slope that had rocks all in it. the slope became more narrow till I barely had ground to stand on and was hanging onto one of the rocks and I screamed up to the old man HELP, I wasn't too panicked though.

As I yelled, a thick layer of mist or fog appeared like a wall right over my head. I let go and went down to the ground. On the flat ground around me were old abandoned cars and there was more fog all around them. I went walking through all the cars and I knew someone I needed to see was in one but as I approached the car in question I felt a sudden surprise and woke up.

It was all very detailed and my senses were very active in the dream.

Thanks for the answers so far.. They both make sense and kinda compliment each other. I'm having fun thinking about this and I'm still up for any other interpretations!

Dreaming that you are in school means feelings of inadequacy and childhood insecurities that have never been resolved. It may relate to anxieties about performance and abilities. You may also be going through a "spiritual learning" experience. If you are still in school and dream about school, then it will naturally serve as a backdrop to your dream world. Alternatively, a dream that takes place in school may be a metaphor for the lessons that you are learning from your waking life.

Seeing the woods in your dream, represents life, fertility, rejuvenation, and spring. Alternatively, it symbolizes the unknown and unconscious. You need to be more open-minded to discovering your potential and instinctual nature. Dreaming that you are walking through the woods means your return to an aspect of yourself that is innocent and spiritual. Seeing dried up, dying woods in your dream, suggests that there is a situation in your life that has not yet been resolved. You may also be overwhelmed with a problem or issue.

Seeing rocks in your dream means permanence and stability as expressed in the familiar phrase "as solid as a rock". It may also indicate that you are making a commitment to a relationship. Or you may be contemplating some changes in your life that will lay the groundwork for a more solid foundation. On the other hand rocks may also symbolize stubbornness, disharmony and unhappiness. Dreaming that you are climbing a steep rock means struggles, obstacles, and disappointments.

Dreaming that you are in a panic indicates a lack of control and power in your life. You may be feeling helpless in some situation or unable to make a clear decision.

Dreaming that you are caught in a mist means confusion and unhappiness in your home life and uncertain fortune. You need to see things more clearly. Seeing others caught in a mist means that you will gain from the misfortune of others.

Dreaming that you are going through a thick fog means much confusion, troubles, scandal, and worries. You may not be seeing things the way they really are or you may have lost your sense of direction in life.

School represents a place of learning in your life, while being in the woods represents the place of trials and troubles. Your dream sounds like you forsook some important lessons and started to head down a slippery slope with rocky troubles in the path. Sometimes the "old man" can be symbolic of your old life and old way of thinking which you relied on and tried to use when you fell into trouble. The thick fog represents your perception being by confusion and things being clouded in your life. The abandoned cars represent "vehicles" by which people are trying to get somewhere in life. For example, schools, jobs, gifts, talents or anything used to help you get somewhere in life. So, the abandon cars represent opportunites which are abandoned and going nowhere due to confusion.

Do you have a father figure or possibly a grandfather who has passed away? This is a dream about a paternal figure you miss (hence: seeking them out, saying "Hi") but you two are separated by obstacles (all the abandoned cars, yet someone's in one of them, all the fog.)
My opinion, anyway.

A dream that takes place in school may be a metaphor for the lessons that you are learning from your waking life. You are taking your own path instead of the normal path others take. Even though you fall sometimes, you continue. You are seeking answers.
