My husband and I have discussed going there for our 1 year anniversary. I have never been there and I don't really know anything about it. Can anyone give suggestions on where to go or have any good websites for information?? Or maybe give a suggestion on a warmer, cheaper place to go that doesn't include Florida.

My husband and I were just there in May for our honeymoon. It was beautiful! I would go back in a heart beat! We stayed on Oahu for this trip but I had been there before and stayed on the Big Island. You're right it is an expensive trip but for us it was worth it. Try to spend at least a week there if not more. If you plan on only seeing one island be sure to do your research. Each island has something different to offer. I can tell you from experience that Oahu is the busiest island, but is still pretty peaceful on the North Shore. Oahu has a lot of varying climates. Around Diamond head it is arid and almost desert like, but only a few minutes farther inland and it is like a tropical rainforest. On the big island there is Volcanoes national park where you can see the lava that has flowed down the volcano. When I was there last the active volcano actually erupted. It was really awesome to see the lava steam as it hit the ocean. My uncle's family has always lived there and really love it. The spirit of Aloha is wonderful in Hawaii. We couldn't have asked for more friendly and accomodating people. There are many options if you want to see more then one island also. There are cruises that go from the west coast over to Hawaii and spend a day at each of the islands. There are seven islands but most cruises will go to Oahu, The big island, Maui and Kaui. You can also stay on one island and take a morning flight over to another island to spend the day if you like.
I know you can probably go to a place like Cancun for ALOT less money, but keep in mind that since Hawaii is an island you will find native flora that doesn't exist elsewhere and the hospitality is tops! If you want I can email you some of my pics from our last trip to Oahu. roman_breeze@yahoo.com. The Oahu visitors bureau has a website as well that you can visit and they will also send you email updates if you like.

It would be helpful to know your starting point. Hawaii isn't any more expensive than any other US tourist destination - once your there. The expensive part about Hawaii is getting there.

If you live anywhere other than the west coast of the US, going to Hawaii is an expensive plane trip. I find Miami, Ft. Lauderdale etc... to be just as expensive as Hawaii once I'm there. You can get a condo, cook your own food, eat at MceeD's etc.. in either place if you want to go cheap.

If your on the east coast, you can get to the Caribbean cheaper and the cost once there, will be similar or cheaper to Hawaii. With the Caribbean/Mexico you can find all inclusive resorts - so all your food and alcohol is included. Food/booze is what will kill your budget in Hawaii. I'm not aware of any all inclusive resorts in the US.

Also, search google for time share rentals. There are several companies where people rent their time share time that they can't use. You can browse different places for prices - consider Cancun, Cabo San Lucas, Costa Rica..just be sure you have a passport.

Hawaii is the perfect vacation spot! The weather is wonderful all year long, about 80 degrees and depending on if you are on the dry or wet side of the island you will either have a lot of sun and just tiny showers, or be in a gorgeous rainforest!

The best website for Hawaii information including all the islands, lodging, dining, activities, what to pack and what it will cost is www.hawaii.com

Have a great time! Aloha!

Hawaii is not cheap in any way. Accommodations, food, travel are all expensive there. If you want a relatively cheap place for sun and sand go to the Dominican Republic ( or Cuba if you aren't American)
