The firearm owners protection act that was passed in the 1980's states that you can buy a long gun in any state, so long as you would not be prohibited from buying that gun in your state of residence. Real life however, is rarely that easy. I've had stores refuse to sell me a shotgun or rifle because the policy of the store is to only sell firearms to residents of the state where the store is located. Legally you should be able to purchase a long gun in any state in the U.S. All you can do is ask and find out if the store you are dealing with will sell it to you.

In my experience, you can purchase long guns from out-of-state as long as you buy them in person. Handguns are another story, and to the best of my knowledge must be purchased in your home state.
Now I live in NJ, and have friends who have purchased rifles at gun shows and retailers in NY and PA without a problem. I'm not sure if this is a federal matter or not, or if this is the case in PA, but I know in NY they will only sell to you if you live in a neighboring state. But in your case it really doesn't matter.
The best way to find out would be to call the shop you want to buy from. They will best know the law in that regard, and even if it is legal, they may have a policy to not allow it. (for example, I know Gandor Mountain doesn't allow out of state sales but ***** does)

Generally, no. There isn't a waiting period (unless the police agency checking your background wants to make you wait), and a place like Bass Pro Shops has that kind of thing down to a science and can get you in and out fairly easily.

You can buy it legally. You pay for the gun, and the out of state dealer will ship the gun to an FFL dealer in your state, and your designated dealer will transfer the gun to you. Naturally there will be a fee for this. Unless it is a gun you cannot get anywhere else, I would buy local, and avoid all these fees involved.

that they had probably would desire to be transferred to an FFL on your state for that to artwork. the ideal thank you to purchase "out of state" could be to purchase a CA-felony rifle on line and have it shipped to an FFL on your state. this could shop you the fee of having to do distinctive transfers.

You can IF NC does not have any regulation barring it. There is paperwork and a waiting period involved, but as far as Federal law is concerned, yes, that is a legal transaction.

I buy my stuff online as follows:
contact the online seller with the required info - which model,etc...
send them the money and the name/address of my FFL.
go see the FFL guy when the weapon arrives - we fill out the 4473 form and I take my stuff home.
