i won't deny anybody's right to believe what they choose to believe, but i also won't sit quietly while someone presents a myth as absolute truth and uses it to judge others. christianity has done the world a lot of good, just in the art world alone, but that doesn't erase the evil that some of its followers continue to try to get away with. legislating morality, repressing other religions, and incessant proselytization reflect poorly on all christians. but, people like fred phelps, matthew sheppard's killers, and the abortion clinic bombers are the main reason i can't just sit quietly.
edit: ummm... eric c, the bush administration alone has repressed psychological studies that show a link between teen suicide and sexual identity, christians have rallied to prevent genetic and stem cell research that could prove vital to treating cancer and other diseases. that's just 2 examples out of 1500 years of christian domination. the middle ages themselves saw a recession in human knowledge, some of which has only recently been recovered. did you know the ancient romans had medical instruments comparable to modern ones and the greeks had steam-driven devices?

Everyone who believes lives a productive and decent life? Ever check the prisons, the divorce rate among xians, the pedophilia rate among churches, the scandals committed by preachers? You are delusional if you think xianity is a social panacea, it is just the opposite. The peopl I know who are atheist or agnostic are more trustworthy and have more personal dignity in their thumb than most xians have in their entire being.
To Heiscoming...Too bad the "truth" and "good news" that xianity brought to the world was done so by sword, burn pile and noose. If it were true, xianity would not have needed murder to enforce the "truth." I was "saved" once. xianity damn near killed me. After leaving and renouncing it, I quit drinking, lost weight, regained my health, earned more money, etc. etc. all without a single prayer to jebus. Too bad the flock is departing in droves now that they don't have a sword at their throat.

Whether we are theists, polytheists, atheists, or anything else, we believe we have the truth and that the truth will lead to personal benefits as well as the greatest society possible benefitting all.
Therefore, anybody who has the conviction enough to think that their beliefs are true and beneficial for all, are committed to trying to expose that they believe to be false beliefs and install their own. Anything less than that, then the people are hypocrites.
With that being said, I believe that Jesus provides salvation and when we are doing the things he said to do, society couldnt be any better!

"Productive and deceit life"?
"Deceit" is not a positive word.
Truth is the most important thing, and I believe everyone should know the truth. Let's not forget that people who believe literally in the bible are suffering from delusion, and eventually things go downhill from there.
Mentally ill patients who suffer from delusions can lead very productive, positive lives, but does that mean we should let them continue to believe in their delusions???
Besides, who wants a society with people who have to depend on some archaic book for their morality? That's pretty scary.

Just take the answers given so far as a whole and you have your "best answer".
Most of the responders are happy to condemn your belief and all it has stood for throughout the ages by spotlighting the bad. They do this for one reason only. If they can convince everyone you are really screwed up and so your religion is so terribly wrong then they do not have to admit to themselves that it is in fact themselves who are wrong.
If you are right, then that means my beliefs are wrong and most people will condemn you from the rooftops rather than admit they are wrong.

we are a fallen planet,Lucifer disrupted our universe ages
ago.and we are cut off from the always flowing light of
God,until the final judgment of the evil spirits.we are mostly
blind leading the blind when it comes to truth and wisdom.take away all the dogma in all religions writings
and we might have some inspired word from God.
Jesus said even a child can know the truth, like ask and you
will receive or knock and it will be opened to you.
if us humans were really following the word of God
there wouldn`t be all the war an hate as here on earth.
so face facts we`re spiritual fools, far and few between
men who live with, truth, beauty & goodness

The bible is wrong
this is proven by it's many contradictions
jesus did not exist
The church has done many evil things in the
past which should never be forgotten as to
ensure that history doesn't repeat itself
Even today it still brainwashes children and
tampers with their private parts and also
creates war and suicide bombers
The sooner we get rid of religion,
the better it will be for everyone

Religion has not had a net positive effect on history. Modern religion is even worse than it has been historically. At least historically religious people could not have known that what they believed was false. Now, religious people are actively slowing scientific advance. They are thereby extending the suffering of billions of people who otherwise would benefit from medical, scientific and technological innovations. Religious people as individuals may try to be good, but they support institutions whose evil dwarfs any good they can hope to do.
It's a moral imperative that we end the suffering religion has inflicted on the people of the world.

So your saying we couldn't get the same positive affect from something true? Even an unpleasant truth is healthier and ultimately more valuable than a nice falsehood.

I'm a Christian, but I can tell you the answer to this question.
Atheists feel the need to try to prove the Bible false, because throughout history and still today, there are way too many over-zealous Christians who try to force their views on them.
While I do believe that we as Christians should be a witness to others, Jesus never forced himself on others, and neither should we.
