What worked for me when I was single was just to smile and chirp "Hi!"
For men, saying hi, and then "Can I buy you a drink?" was good. Or asking me to dance.

we HATE premade chatup lines.
You can always compliment a girl... it makes us feel good, and that's a start to making us want to progress with you.
bad ones? You can always google/yahoo. there are so many out there, and over 90% are really bad.
