Most people think this is a lost cause, but I believe that for every child we see in the news, there were at least 5 adults who knew something was not right in their home. If we as a society would stop being so afraid of being wrong and just report the things we see are not right AT THE BEGINNING this would save more children. The problem is much of the case worker's time is spent on spiteful parents accusing each other of ridiculous things and neighbors who are being spiteful as well. This keeps the workers overworked on lots of cases that are unsubstantiated. The flip side is there are others who are afraid to report because they don't want to get someone they like in trouble or they don't want to start an investigation and it not be true.
WE NEED TO REPORT, Everytime! Our youth depend on us.

I'm a strong believer in establishing good support systems for parents. It seems so often that parents with kids who misbehave in public - or parents themselves who misbehave in public - are glared at or become the subject of snappy comments.

It's hard being a parent, but as a whole we don't do much to help people really better themselves. Even when people make suggestions to others about getting counseling or other help, it is often done in a way that comes across as insulting rather than genuine and encouraging. It's the difference between saying "You need help!" vs saying, "When I was having such-and-such a problem with my kids, we saw a family counselor who suggested...".

Many people who are overwhelmed by their children or on the brink of abuse could use a helping hand, not pointless comments about how they shouldn't have had children in the first place, or whatever.

Even in cases where CPS is involved, the baby still gets hurt.

The only thing we can do is take care of our own kids, love them and protect them. Call and report something that looks like abuse.

If I provide my children with love and protection, there is a better chance that they will do the same.

Someone said something about teenagers passing their child off to the grandparents; I had my daughter at 17, and have been the sole caregiver since her birth, just as I should be.

I dont know what we could do,but i wish it would all end.The abusers should be hung. I have 3 children and never had or have to resort in abuse mentally or physically .I respect my children in the sort of how they respect me.I always talk to them and tell them what they shouldent do. They know that i only tell them in good attentions.I only want good for them. So if most of the parents can respect their children that they brought into this world and realize that children are not here to be harmed it could make a lot of difference.

Sadly I don't think it can be stopped, i think it has always existed as much as it did in the past. There was once a time not so long ago when "naughty" kids were regularly hit by their teachers, and in previous generations beatings from adults was an accepted form of discipline!

One thing we can do as people is be vigilant, and as parents we must listen to and know our children, let our children know they can confide in us about anything.

But you cant change the world.

Sterilization and or chemical castration. Groups like the ACLU would think that it is a violation to civil rights. However it is these people that violate the civil rights of others. Parenting is a gift not a right. People seem to think that kids are theirs to do what they want with. I think that we live in a morally challenged society. I dont watch the news because it is too depressing. I think that if we toughened laws that would make a difference. Being a republian woman that I am, pro-death penalty etc....I think that people who are convicted of sexual abusing children should automatically get the death penalty.

Regrettably, anyone can have a child. And far too many children are born to children, to the poor, to the uneducated. How do we solve this? You won't like the answers. But since you asked.....

Forced sterilization of women who get pregnant by different men, have no means to support their children, and live off the government.

Stronger society values that shun teens who have babies. Society accepts them now. There are little to no consequences for many of them as usually their parents step forward to raise the child, thus alleviating them of the responsibility for their actions.

Concentrated efforts on eliminating/reducing poverty. Stop government programs that offer a free ride to anyone who doesn't want to work. You may not want to be the trash collector or the farm laborer, but it's honest work and you aren't going to get any more government checks to support your stagnant lifestyle.

Society emphasis on education. Graduate High School. Go to college or learn a valuable trade. Get out there and make something of yourself. Forget the myspace nonsense, the rap music, the celebrity worship, the materialism, the "I'm too good to do chores or work" attitude, etc...

I think we've already begun the process of reversing this trend.

What we call 'abuse' today was considered 'good parenting' a few generations ago.

Educating the population that violence towards children is NOT acceptable is the first step.

Thinks change at a frustratingly slow pace sometimes.

(I do, however, feel we should reserve the parents right to spank in some cases. Such as a child who continually runs out into a busy street for example. )

It is a cycle of abuse. In a ideal world it would not happen. But this is not ideal. So, despite all these agencies, it will continue.
