Here's the problem....I have no power especially at low rpms...while in neutral i get hesitation until about 2000rpm....then the power picks up through the rest of the range. Every now and again i will get a rough idle. I have absolutely no power while in gear. i have been racking my brain over this for a while now and i haven't figured it out....heres a list of things that have been checked....

Engine Timing (new belt installed too)
Ignition Timing
Distributer (yes...the whole thing)
Throttle Position Sensor
Intake Gaskets
EGR Valve
Vacuum Leaks
Air Filter (same with no filter)
Fuel Pump
Fuel Filter
Fuel Injectors
Fuel...
Wiring
Compression
Spark plugs
Diagnostic Run on computer...nothing shows up....(OBD I)

it is an expensive gamble but most likely the mass air flow meter is the problem. [even using nissan's own bench test directions a defective unit will almost always pass and never trips a code] you are doing the right thing though [process of elimination], temporarily installing your unit on a known good properly running car [same year and model] if one is available

I would start with cleaning Mass Air flow meter/sensor. Your local parts store will have it. Its in a can simular to WD-40. Just remove the MAF and spray it (both sides), and also clean the connector with electrical cleaner. Both should not cost more than 6.00 See if that works. If not change your oxygen sensor.

Good Luck

1...vacuum leak...spray around hoses and intake with wd 40 and see if idle changes.....2 some ignition problem.. how many miles om that thing...if over 150,000 it could be worn cam,bad valves, carbon build up on valves.....belt put on out of sync...spark plugs wires off by one...distributor put in a few degrees off...
