I lost my bank card a few days ago and they have sent me a new one. I wrote my signature on the bank but the ink ran a little so it looks messy. Does this matter? Plus, I need to activate my card but I don't how to do it. Thanks

How the signature looks doesn't matter. Most people don't usually check it. At worst, you may have to show an ID to prove that it's your card.

Typically a bank will have you call an 800 number to activate the card. It should be included with the paperwork that came with the card. If not, call the bank and ask.

As others have said sig shouldn't matter to much, but if it worries you order another. The card should have came with a number to activate it. If not check the back of the card and call Visa being they are the ones responsible for the card. If they are no help then go to your bank and usually they have a card service to activate it or you can try using it at an ATM and sometime that activates it. There are so many ways to do it now it gets crazy.

There should have been a sticker affixed to the front of your card with the toll free number to call and activate it.

And NEVER sign the back of any credit/debit card. If it's stolen, the thief now knows exactly what your signature looks like and can copy it. Always write "ID Required" on your signature line. That way no one can copy your signature and the store will always need to see your driver's license picture ID before allowing the charge to go through. This limits your liability as well in case stores allow the thief to use your card without verifying ID as you require on your cards.

You should have had a little sticker on the card when you received it. It usually has a free phone number on it and you get through to an advisor. As for the ink being a bit messy you may be able to get away with it as most shops nowadays use the chip-&-PIN system to take payment. Be a bit wary though as not all shops will accept a card which has a messy sig on it.

the way ur signature looks doesnt matter at all, as long as its legible. Plus, the only thing that companies look for on the back of the card is that "3" digit number next to ur signature. N ur card should have come with an 800 number for u to call so that u can activate ur new card. hope that helps.

I never sign my card. The theory is that if the card isn't signed, the clerk is supposed to ask for ID. This rarely if ever happen to me....

The bank card always list a number on the back of the card. Call it and follow the directions to activate it.

Dont worry about your signature, they rarely check it, though some do and will compare it to you license signature. There should be a 800# on the back of your card to call to activate it.

No the signature is not what they check if it's a chip and pin card, and the accompanying letter should tell you where to activate your card, or it may be printed on the back. Happy New Year to you

I agree with most people that replied...I write on the back of my card "See ID" and I know to activate my bank card I have to take it to the ATM and w/draw some money before it will work. I tried to use it to get gas when I got my new one and it wouldn't work. I went to the ATM and w/drew some cash and then went back to the gas station it worked.

most of the time a little ink run wont matter and to activate it if you did not receive a number to call then you go use it at the bank machine to activate it
