The military doesn't have to find them. Contrary to popular belief - aided by the media - most NATO bases in Afghanistan are under daily attack from the Taliban, mostly within a mile of the base. Six years after entering Afghanistan the situation is no better now than on day one - in many ways it is worse.

Trouble is the general public are only fed information that has been vetted to show a positive picture of the situation.

The needless loss of life is down to
1 Not enough troops on the ground to take and hold the ground - even in close proximity to the bases (1500 hours UK time 25th December mortar and rocket attack on Kandahar base - just missed my sons accommodation block)
2 Pussie footing around so as not to upset the locals.

They know because they have contacts inside. In some cases, the talibans have celfons that they use to contact journalists if they want publicities. At times, they have messengers who will inform journalists if they need to have something aired. Of course, the talibans will never contact government agencies for interviews. And if you ask why these journalists do not get arrested if they air press releases made by talibans? well, the government cannot force the journalists to revel their sources. BUT if the journalists will know beforehand that the talibans have plans to attack or to destroy a facility or bomb a part of the city, then I guess, it is the responsibility of the journalists to first dissuade the talibans (if the journalist can) and also to inform the proper authorities so that lives will be spared... (but I don't think the talibans will announce their raids for obvious reasons, lest their operations will be compromised.)

Hiya mate! 4O commando operative at your service! /salute

Yeah, i cant say too much.. but.. check the net! I dunno how many Taliban weve shot the last 3 months, but its in the hundereds, and weve had alot of wounded too.. but they dont report that see..so maybe thats why your confused.

But trust me.. we know exactlly where they are, and every single day, we play with each other.. and we play harder, because were better trainined and better equipped, an we have gun-ships and planes and accurate mortar fire.. and we will continue to slay them like the dogs they are until they see sense and get past thier insane religious indoctrination, leave people the hell alone and allow the afghan army and police to keep the peace!

Hope that answers your question, keep the faith! :D

There is something called "file footage" which may explain why you seem to be seeing something you're not. Television news uses this irresponsibly.

Remember when we were hearing about Monica Lewinsky every day? They showed the same footage of that little greeting Clinton gave her once. You'd think they were flaunting their relationship every day, despite all the news about it. It's almost subliminal the way the media inserts footage like that.

I think that may be the case with what you're seeing, except for interviews, which may not be set up by US crews in the first place.

The press don't know where they are. The only reasons they get interveiws with the Taliban is because the Taliban want it. They are the ones being approched by the Taliban and they are blind folded and brought to secret locations where the interveiws are conducted.

The military know where the Taliban are, they have been knocking chunks out of them over the festive season. Check out 40 Commando Group's operations.

They don't know.

They re-use video and purchase video from terrorist supporters in order to pretend they know.
