I wouldn't worry about asthma just yet. I'm an allergist, and I treat asthma every day. It's extremely common for people to develop wheezing or chest tightness with a viral infection. It doesn't necessarily need to be the flu, any virus will do. However, asthma or not, the treatment is the same. Ventolin is ok, but generic Albuterol is better. Your symptoms may improve in the next week or so, but if they don't, you should see an allergist or pulmonologist (lung doctor). You may need additional medication to improve the coughing/chest tightness.

Hope this helps. Don't worry about asthma, you'll be ok!

it is a rescue inhaler for saving your life. call the doctor AND the pharmacist to explain how and when to use the med. NEVER leave a doctor's office without fully understanding your treatment.

the ventolin will help open your bronchial passages. the flu has probably caused them to be congested.

Feel better soon.
