Can you own a fully automatic rifle like an AK-47, in the UK if you have a firearm certificate? I heard a rumor that fully automatic weapons were banned in USA, and UK's gun laws are more strict than USA's.

Fully Automatic guns ARE NOT banned in the US. A private citizen may own what is known as a Class III firearm (Fully automatic and/or silenced) provided that they can pass a standard background check by the ATF and purchase a tax stamp from the ATF (Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms) for the particular item.
To obtain a fully automatic firearm, a non-felon, US citizen must first find a Class III firearm dealer with the item that he/she wants. He then must go to the Chief Law Enforcement officer of his jurisdiction (Sheriff's office) with a letter of intent to purchase that firearm and request a letter of approval from the official. If the official denies it, then the person my ask for approval from a magistrate in his jurisdiction.
After recieving approval, he takes his letter to the dealer who files the paperwork with the ATF. You then must pay for the firearm, the Federal Tax Stamp, and any handling fees incurred.
Example: I wanted to by a silenced Walther P22. The gun costs $299. The silencer costs $200. The tax stamp fpr the silencer also costs $200. The total would be $699.

In the UK any weapon that is capable of automatic firing is a prohibited weapon and not lawful under any circumstances in the UK. American legislature take note.
The US is still like the wild west and the right to bear arms is without doubt the most stupid piece of law known to man.
Guns in themselves do not kill or injure people do.
Ban the gun stop the killing.

you could have a de-activated AK47 without a great deal of trouble.
A firearm certificate can be obtained but eye of a needle and camel come to mind.
an automatic shotgun is limited to three shots.
handguns is a big no-no-- legal ones that is, even the UK Olympic pistol team have to go to France to practice.

no, you cant even own semi-automatic rifles and all rifles must be fixed to bolt-action single shot. You can own an AK-47 provided it is fixed as such

ALL firearms are banned, with the exception of shotguns and airguns - you may only own a shotgun if you have a "genuine reason" (self defence is not a reason); for work etc. Even the olympic pistol shooting team have to train in Europe, because pistols are simply not allowed in the UK. Automatic firearms are absolutely out of the question.
