There is a paradox on the negative views of people on zoos. Many zoologists, animal rights activists, biologists etc began their "love affair" with animals and nature as children after they have been introduced to animals in zoos during school field trips. It was where they learned about the different wild species, their characteristics, their environments, their status etc. But they would't have learned about animals if they did not visit a zoo. Remember that not everybody is lucky enough to have access to the right education, books, litereature, or even Nat Geo, The Discovery Channel. and Animal Planet

We have a "zoo" near our house where the animals are actually abandoned exotic pets such as snakes, lizards, birds. My 8 year old daughter has been there several times and as a result, has started her own "rescue zoo" for kittens. She has rescued and placed in good homes about 25 kittens so far.

I have chosen not to know about what happens in zoos, I have seen more than I could ever want to see/know about what happens to animals all across the world and I cannot handle knowing anything new! All I know is that most animal activists and some welfarists are against them, so I just don't go to any and support them:)

I'm against. The only exeption will be "hospital-zoo" where people help animals to be saved. But I'm against all kind of animals and human exploitation.
I'm not sure if I'm an activist or not. But for sure I am someone who speack-up for animal rights.

I'm one of those people- most of the laws that animal rights activists have influenced have done more harm than good, both to animals and people, and some of the "symbolic" actions they do have intentionally killed animals, such as killing animals at cat and dog shows because "they were better off dead." On top of that, the fools over at the Humane Society of the U.S. influenced a law that banned some popular pet snake species from crossing state lines. What this ended up doing is making it illegal to take your pet snake to a certified vet in a neighboring state (reptile vets are far and few in between) and the result was that many beloved pet snakes are dying because of it. On top of that, if people have to move out of state, they cannot take their pet with them. That means they have to re-home them and if they cannot, they have to be euthanized. If they can't bring themselves to do that, they'll release their pet into the wild instead. I find that animal rights activists are blind and delusional, as they cause inconsiderate amounts of damage when enforcing their agenda. In fact, one of their top organizations, the Animal Liberation Front, is recognized by the FBI as Eco-terrorists and are responsible for the murder of many people and animals.

Against.

Veganism, by its very definition, is a philosophy which opposes animal exploitation, and holding animals in forced captivity for profit counts.

Many zoos sell old animals to hunting ranges, and those with active "conservation" programs only breed animals which attract the most visitors, not those who are closest to the edge of extinction.

Activists are going to be against zoos. They wouldn't be activists if they weren't.

I'm not an activist, but yes, I'm against the traditional zoo.

As a vegan I'm against any thing that human does towards animals. Putting them in a zoo is not natural to the animal. Zoos are a living hell for the animals.

If humans want to see animals they should go out into the countryside.

Go vegan!

I am very much against zoos. Zoos are virtual animal prisons. Animals belong in their own natural habitat not on display. In the case though of animal sanctuaries, like the one in TN that houses elephants from zoos and circuses, I'm okay with those but zoos in the traditional sense - very bad.

Against. The latest news story from San Fransisco is just but one good reason why. Animals should be in their own natural habitats or in a sanctuary that can provide that kind of environment.

I only support the keeping of animals that never would have had a chance in the wild or a reserve.

Elephants should NEVER be kept in a concrete habitat under any circumstance. It always leads to extreme joint pain and premature death.

It should be enough for us to watch them on TV in their natural habitat. It's not like we need to touch the animals.
