I am also on Metformin...I have found that eating 6 very small "meals" a day has helped my blood sugar a lot. When I say a small meal, I mean 3 regular meals of small portions and 3 snacks: a few ounces of cheese and some whole wheat crackers, an apple with peanut butter, a palm full of almonds, some veggies and lowfat dip.

When I started taking metformin it took about a month or so but I also had help of the insulin... after about a month and a half got off insulin and just take metformin. My sugar is always kept in the range of 90-120, 120 being the hightest right after I eat sometimes... It becomes a number game. You start eating and cutting just thinking what number you sugar will be. Good Job on the weight lost. I suggest you walk a little more it makes metformin react and work better.. Even when you go shopping park the furdest or when there is an elevator take the stairs. good luck

I also take metformin, for a week now, and mine has dropped from 460 to 230-250 , My doctor said it may take 2 weeks to see full benefits. You are doing good keep it up. Don't get discouraged, I myself am wondering if the levels will drop to the good range. Just eat good and small meals, You need to eat around 4 small meals a day. watch the sugar, carbs, and the amount you eat. And stay positive, I was told just over a week ago that i have Diabetes, and also over weight, But no matter what I'm going to fight!!

Just keep doing what you're doing... slowly cut your pizza intake from 4 pieces to 2 pieces, and continue to exercise... The weight didn't come on overnight, so it won't come off overnight, but it WILL come off if you keep it up!

Do you think the Metformin has helped with the weight loss? Curious about that.

I do not know what Metforim is, but as the others have said-excercise, lots of fruits and vegetables and WATER!!!! are you allowed to add lemon or lime juice to it? And what I always found helpful, pink or red grapefruit-cuts your appetite and citrus is a diuretic(sp) Good luck! P.S. not that you do this, but not everything that you drink or eat has to be sweet-takes a bit of time to adjust

Walk every day for at least 1/2 hour. If you can't make it every day try to get out at least four days a week. Drink lots of water and instead of pizza go for fresh veggies and a few fruits as well as lean cuts of meat.

The scale is useful, but what is just as important is to get a waist size of 36 or less, and your percent body fat under 15%. The main problem with being overweight is insulin resistance. Your body produces insulin, but it is not properly utilized. Sustained vigorous exercise will quickly reverse insulin resistance even if you are overweight. It does not have to be everyday either, once every several days is enough to keep insulin resistance reset. If you are substituting standing for sitting at work you are not doing yourself any favors since you are likely to develop varicose veins that way, and then possibly phlebitis and strokes or even cardiac infarction. If you are walking instead, that of course is a big benefit. Metformin stresses the beta cells which produce insulin, so if you can reduce the dose or eliminate its use altogether with diet and exercise you are much better off.
