Check with the Tutoring Center of your college/university and see if you qualify to be a tutor in classes that you have already taken and received either an A or B in or that you have life experience in. You usually get to set your own hours to work around your class schedule. Also, if you receive financial aid, check into the Work Study Program.

I have the same strength and weaknesses as you do, small world. Have you looked into being a Occupational Therapist, Physical Therapist, Speech Language Pathologist or Art Therapist. Occupational Therapy has more of a psychology and artistic side with a small dose of sciences. Physical Therapy is more sciences but you can still be creative with treatment planning. Speech Therapy is right in the middle of those two and is part science/ part creativity. Art Therapy is a field that is opening up and requires lots of creativity. Yes all of these are at the Master's degree level but the money is good, demand is good and you will have stable working hours to with your child. Plus all of these have the option of being per diem or part time, so you can own that coffee shop. I worked at Starbucks for a few years and it was one of the funniest jobs I ever had. I considered nursing too, but after seeing so many people go into the field, learning about the stress, responsibilities you will have as a nurse and the working hours, I decided to look and see what else was out there.

Get certified in Excel and a couple of other computer data-entry programs and you can work as a secretary or front-desk person for nearly any company. I had a guy friend that knew Excel that got a job with Walgreens corporate, just doing data-entry, and he made at or above $15 an hour all through college.
You can try any of the following as well: baby-sitting/nanny work, taking care of a disabled or elderly person, assisting in a daycare, working as a counter girl at a high-end department store (you can make great money and sales and commission there).
Where do you live that people still get paid $5/hour?
Hehe, you might not be reaching out to your target audience with this question, you posted in Vegetarian and Vegan/Food and Drink...

I certainly would agree with bartending and waitressing. So lucrative!! Maybe not as lucratived as stripping, but sane and safe. My scholarship did allow for non-academic needs, so through BSc(hons), I waitressed on Fridays and Saturdays and made enough for rent, food, clothing, etc. just working during the dinner and after theatre hours.

You won't get rich- but I worked at a group home for people with developmental disabilities. it was the best job Ive ever had- not always easy though. I have to say it is way better doing something to help people instead of bringing them food and beer.- ive done that also. good luck
