Have you considered seeing a doctor is this happens often?

One possibility and it is only a possibility is that because you get frightened when you start to cough your throat tightens up and that makes it harder to breathe. You could consider a cough med - any of the "tussins" or even cough drops to help loosen the mucus, the old tea with lemon and honey or herb teas with rose hips will help loosen the mucus too and make you feel better.

Please you may have to see the physician.
Some tests might be required to ascertain the type or nature of the cough. Its not all cough that can be handled with expectorants, elixirs, linctuses or syrups. Some require special agents as antibiotics to help the situation

you didn't say how long you had the cough, and I have no idea what "gets stuck" means unless you have a breathing problem or alergy to begin with. Check with your doctor to see if you have asthma.

If your cough is wet, and the colour of the mucus is greenish, most probably it is infection. the best thing to do is to drink honey with lemon (twice aday). for more information go to http://pharmacy.waips.com/cough.html

if you have bloody cough then you should go for x-ray, otherwise you don't need at.

You need to go to the doctor! It could be several things, but it sounds like you probably need a chest x-ray. Anytime you can't breathe, it's serious! Take care!

Maybe whooping cough (pertussis), just because you are an adult, you can still get it.
