I had a number of one night stand without protection before i met my long term g/f, see was tested recently and she was fine but i have some symptoms, could the infection be dormant and not be passed on untill it becomes active?

yep even if its dormant and your not doing anything to treat/suppres it then you can still pass it on. its called a-symptomatic shedding.

Yes it can.

HPV and herpes are noted for their ability to lie dormant without symptoms for years (especially in males) and still pass them on to others.

you can have it dormant in you but still pass it on such as clamydia (sp?) boys are better carriers of this but still pass it to girls....hmm i wouldnt take the risk with your g/f
