The Hindu community, especially the youths (most of them) do not care about their culture and nowadays there are lots of young boys and girls changing their religion because they get married to someone from another religion. The children nowadays are not properly cultured according to their religion. Most of them ignore the rules they should follow as a Hindu
I'm not against anything, but please, the Hindus here, can you tell me if the Hindu religion will still exist in some 20 or 50 years?

Edit -
Of course, i'm talking about the survival of Hindu followers, not only the religion.
India is the only Hindu country, but there are Hindus scattered all over the globe. I'm not from India ;-)

Wow, thanks for those great answers. Hinduism is a great religion, i respect all religions, but in my point of view, the children emerging nowadays have no interest in it. The religion won't be damaged but there won't be anyone to follow it
It's true our ancestors survived so many troubles and kept Hinduism alive, they loved their religion, they were faithful towards it, but nowadays, our own people are leaving Hinduism, they have no time for it, no will, no belief.....of course, I'm not generalizing, don't get me wrong

I am a Hindu and I am apprehensive at the prospect which you outlined....Many Hindus will simply be complacent and say "sanathan dharma means eternal religion"...However there is definitely a decline of Hinduism, in terms of its numbers as well as the extent to which Hinduism is practiced.....Many young hindus don't care about Hinduism and cultural preservation, let alone taking pride in it....They regard anything Hindu related as being backward.
There are several reasons for this...I wouldn't say that it is about marriage...Hinduism in terms of its content is bigger than all the other religions put together...I mean we have something like 50+ bibles...There are many different ways to worship, many different ways to be a Hindu. The more accurate way to describe Hinduism would be to say it is an umbrella religion that has many different religions within it. Because of this, many Hindus (especially young Hindus) don't know exactly where to begin and get lost. Moreover there is a huge discrepancy in the theoretical Hinduism and how it is practically practiced by Hindus.....Hinduism is a very beautiful, intellectual and scientific religion however it is practiced in a horrendous manner...Part of the reason for this is the poverty and illiteracy that is rampant in India (remember that India is the only Hindu country).
I have always argued that unless a serious and proactive endeavour is carried out to reform Hinduism, unite Hinduism, institutionalise Hinduism and purify Hinduism, Hinduism may well die die out by 50 years time...It won't be because of the fact that Hinduism is false but because Hindus were too lazy and apathetic.
There needs to be a much greater deal of inter-Hindu, as well as intra-Hindu (buddhism, sikhism and jainism) debate, discussion, study and the production of scholarship. We need to seperate religion from culture and superstition. Moreover many pundits themselves are incompetent and haven't read all the Hindu books. They spend more time with superstition such as astrology and less time with Hindu wisdom. The pundits need to be regulated and one should only be able to become a pundit when he has completed an academic course of the Hindu faith. Because Pundits aren't doing their jobs as pillars of Hinduism, many illiterate hindus are doing things like worshipping cows and rats....

Hindu Religion may not exist for another year but the true concepts of Hinduism will survive eternally because the concepts are based upon the ultimate truth and not on hersay. All other religions are insecure under Hinduism which is the only TRUE source of all other religions. All other religions suffer with an identity crisis unlike Hinduism that has never believed in conversions through force or money power. What may seem outwardly to you as an end of Hinduism is only the dark hour before break of dawn. Already the Hindu concepts are being scientifically proven to contain a lot of truth. The theory of Karma and reincarnations in many lifetimes have now been proved beyond doubt by western Doctors and scientists, please read the book 'Many Lives,Many Masters' by Dr.Brian Weiss. Also log on to metahistory.org and read the works of John Lash on Christian beliefs that are sourced in Zen and Buddhist teachings which is intrinsically related to Hinduism. Hinduism is proving to be the only TRUE religion of the world and the reason is simple, because Hindu religion is based upon the ultimate sublime truth. Hindu religion can die the day Truth will die.

Considering there are almost a billion Hindus today, its a safe bet to say there will still be plenty in 2020 or even 2100. "A lot" can be fairly subjective. If the elders see two young people in a small community leave Hinduism they may call that "a lot." Also, the simple fact is that every generation complains about the failure of the next generation. Literally, they've been doing it since the invention of writing.
Culture is changing in India. I'm guessing that a lot of caste rules are no longer being followed by many (and I don't believe the government even recognises castes anymore), but just because people aren't following old rules doesn't mean they are abandoning their gods and their beliefs. Honestly, the idea that religions are supposed to remain stagnant and unchanging creeps the hell out of me. How is a religion supposed to address my life if its based on an out-of-date culture?

Back in the 1,600s a church service was an easy 12 hours long. Not like the short ones there are today. Then it was on the news last week that new religions are coming up that believe in God, but feel that they can get away with far less effort than the older ways that have not all gone yet. If you read your Bible you would know that there have been times when believers where down to only a few; but growth and teaching returned. In the end of the Bible it said those that have stuck with God and Jesus 100% and taught truth, not what they preferred, will make it to heaven. And Heaven will be brought down here to earth. Earth wil be nothing like it is now. Believe and study your Bible.

yes, I am a hindu and it will continute for probably more than another millenia. This is because the hindu culture is still truly followed in many parts of india. Some people are such devout hindus that they eat only 1 meal a day and meditate the rest of the day sleeping for only an hour or till. There are several orthodox hindus in India. In america, less indus are orthodox and more don't follow the religion at all.

Thirld world war is going to be fought between Muslims and rest of the world. The world would need a compromise religion in the ensuing vacuum. Hinduism with suitable modifications would be accepted as world religion. I doubt about the existance of Islam and Christianiity within very near future. Hindu religion is here to stay till etrenity.

I would venture to say YES. It has been around for centuries and even though their young are straying away from their teachings there are many who believe in Hinduism. The same could be said for Christianity and others. Our younger generations lack positive leaders in every frontier. The only "leaders" they look at or care to follow are singers with bad music and even worse lyrics. Why? Let see, we as parents, grand-parents and/or godparents are failures. We don't pass along those things taught to us by our ancestors That have prooven good for us. We do not show love to your young ones and they therefore have no interest on listening to us. Yes, we determine the fate of any religion because we do not teach it to our kids, we let the TV and Internet teach them... we are failures as leaders. Some of these religions might not make it to year 2200 but for now, I don't think there are any drastic changes in your lifetime or mine.

Its possible. Look at Britain today. Where are the Christians? I'd when kids are brought up in western society like in America or any English speaking country then it is likely that the kids will adopt the culture the are thrown into. They may even develop their own beliefs different to that of their ancestors.

I agree with Buddha's Brother 100% except i wanted to clarify that India is not the only "Hindu country". India doesn't have an official religion so in that respect it cant be called a Hindu country. On top of this there are more Hindu's(in terms of percentage) in Nepal.

Hmm. In 98 Pope set two goals for evangelists. One, to put a bible in EERY Hindu home. Well, it has NOT been achieved.
Second, to christianise India by 2025. Hmmm. Goal nowhere in site.
For centuries missionaries havine been trying, without success.
Hinduism will outlive xianity. Hmmm. Maybe then, and then only, Jesus might be elevated to godhood.
Whatever it might look outwardly, its inner strength is yet to be gauged by non Hindus. Hmmm. Even Hindus don't know all the strengths!!!
