With three bouts of pneumonia in a year, you need a more extensive evaluation, not just treatment for each individual episode. If your physician isn't willing to do this, ask for a referral to an allergist or pulmonary specialist.
It sounds as if you need an evaluation for allergy to cat dander. While hyposensitization injections offer some help, the best remedy is to avoid cats. Easier said than done. Some parents refuse to get rid of the cat, even for the benefit of their children. It's even thornier when parents live apart and already dispute custody and visitation rights.
Other than an allergy evaluation you may need daily aerosol inhalations or oral montelucast. Obviously, without benefit of exam, history or further testing, this is but a guess.

If you had Asthma, then abstain for the things around you that may cause allergens. stay away from cats, dusty environments. Always bring your medicines. Ashtmatic people usually needs a clean-air environment to prevent an attack.
Don't force yourself to cough, if its really not... if your bp is normal then that's good.
Ask your mom to check for your respiration 3x a day. In a full minute count the number of your breaths (inhale and exhale). The normal respiratory rate is 12-20 breaths per minute but since you had asthma expect that the total of breaths is higher than the usual
goodluck

Sounds to me like you do have an allergy to cats. I listen to doctors all day long and the symptoms you describe are considered an exacerbation of your asthma. When you get around the cats, the dander triggers your asthma. You need to get your doctor to give you a standing prescription for an EpiPen so that whenever you do go to your dad's, carry it with you and utilize it if necessary. Keep your albuterol with you at all times. The doctor may want to also keep you on a standing order of the prednisone, this is a steroid that can strengthen your lung function when your asthma kicks in.
Good luck.

I'm exactly like you - yes, you are allergic to his cats. I suggest you go to the store immediately and get some Claratin - it is the one that works best for me around animal dander. Take a shower after taking the pill to be able to get the dander out of your sinuses. And, of course. stay away from teh cats - it you do touch them, wash your hands.
FYI - the albuterol is NOT to prevent Pneumonia, it is for your asthma - when you start to wheeze, like you are now, you take a puff, in a deep breath, hold it in, and repeat.
Prednizone helps keep your airway open (it is not an antibiotic) & the Zithromax was for the Pneumonia infection.

I feel your pain. I've had asthma for 14 years now and have seen several doctors. The truth is, there is no known cure for asthma at the moment. But the symptoms can be prevented. It really depends on what causes your brother's asthma. Mine is usually dust and hot weather. But I think the universal method is using the control inhaler.
I cured my Asthma the natural way?
