other names for turnip family of vegtables are ruttabaga or jicama or sweet turnip or yellow turnip. For the northern england, irish and scottish "swede, there is also the "tumshie"

Rutabaga and turnip are from the same "family". Rutabagas have longer necks whereas turnips have short necks. They go under many different names but basically are the same root vegetable.

the Scots call them 'neeps'. Actually, I think the Scots call swedes turnips and vice versa, it's an English/Scots pecularity. I don't know any other name for them.
