my 18 yr. old sis is diabetic and she is not on any medication (expect for insulin injections). For this whole past year she has only been sleeping. she sleeps SO MUCH during the day and sleeps the whole night. every time she gets home from work or anything, she just plops in bed. Is this some kind of symptom of something or is she just super lazy? Is this normal? Should I be worried?

Cammie's right. Getting blood sugar under control is job one with a diabetic. When the blood sugar can't get into the cells (whether you're a type 1 or 2), you end up with lack of energy and sugar builds up in the blood... not a good thing. Yes, you should be concerned, but don't worry. It may seem like laziness, but it's not. Mine turned into depression. Perhaps a joint effort on your part, along with the rest of the family, to learn all you can about the disease would help her. Knowledge is power. Through knowledge, I reversed my type 2 diabetes to the point that I no longer have to take any medication for it. If your sis is type 1, that's not possible, but there are many ways to improve her life and get her energy back. A very healthy diet is one very effective method for doing this. The more she can reduce her need for insulin, the better.

As everyone else said tiredness is a direct result of high blood sugar. That's probably the case, but if her sugars are running normal, another possibility could be depression. Depression is quite common in people with a chronic condition such as diabetes. Either way though, it is fixable; she should probably have a check up with her doctor.

lol it is weird because with diabetes it can make you sleep a lot or become restless and thet both come from your sugar being high, I know I work 3rd shift so I'm going to sleep in the day time anywayz but when my sugar drops down to low it will wake me up out of a dead sleep and I know it is time to eat and take my meds but yeah she should go to the dr. and get his input

Her sugars may be too high.
That makes people very tired.
Instead of being scared, why not talk to her about your concerns.
You can also talk to your parents about this.

of course it NOT a normal condition here...i can see that you worry for your sister..so you need to help her by doing what i say

She got to do those test as soon as possible

- HBA1C/A1C test
- all kidney function test
- the THYROID GLAND TEST.
- the PARATHYROID GLAND TEST.
- BLOOD GASES TEST...to see the oxygen saturation and CO2% in her blood
- test for KETOACIDOSIS which MAY be the reason for that condition.

i really think she got to go to the doctor to make any tests i may forget to tell.

best wishes
