Yes, you can hear them snore loudly and then they stop for a few beats, then they snort and start snoring again.
My hubby used to snore, but he stopped completely when he lost the 50 extra pounds he was carrying around!

People with sleep apnea will have distinct periods of no breathing. During a certain part of the REM cycle, the person will stop breathing for a few seconds/ minutes then when they resume sleeping, there will be a very loud/abrupt snore and then will resume normal snoring rythem. However, sleep apnea is very dangerous because some peolpe don't start breathing again and if they don't wake up before they lose complete consciousness, then they will die. Have your husband go to a sleep clinic because it is unlikely that you have listened to him during his entire REM cycle.

It could be sleep apnea. Chronic snoring is one of the signs. Gasping for breath, shallow breathing, breathing then no sound of breathing. He should maybe get tested at a Sleep Wellness Center. Best of luck and Happy Holidays to you!

If he doesn't stop breathing, he doesn't have it. However, my very loud snoring husband makes motions like he's breathing, but he isn't actually breathing. There will be several in and out fake breaths followed by a very LOUD snort/snore and then it resumes. I think he has sleep apnea.

It is hard to just know for sure unless your hubby goes to see a sleep disorder doctor. I have been told that those who have Apnea never knew till they did see a doc and that a big thing to notice is that if the person, even if they sleep good amount of hrs, still wake up real tired.

If you know the signs it is very easy to pink up. When I met my husband his father already had been told he had it. So we knew the signs. So when our daughter started having the signs we were able to get it under control right away. In her case that was to get her tonsils and adenoids removed. Worked like a charm.

My guy has it, scary. I notice because I like to sleep with my head on his chest to hear his heart beat. One night he just sits up fighting for breath because his body knew to. I still wake anytime he stops snoring or changes sounds. Sometimes it is nice to hear him snoring.
