As the other poster said, as long as they fund it themselves. Hopefully Rudd will change the school funding legislation so that we aren't also funding all those rich Catholic schools. I think it's ludicrous we spend so much funding on private Catholic schools when the public schooling system is in urgent need of drastically increased funding.
grabbinit - The 'Australians' didn't move in, the British did. And name me another country where the original inhabitants are still the sole occupants. Blaming the current generation for the mistakes of previous generations is stupidity.

The Islamic population of England is increased very fast, and it might non existent now, but in the future it will grow. The major problem with Islamic schools is in education. Many schools around the world (especially in Western Europe) are fully of radicals Islamic leaders who teach Islamic youth wrong ideas about Jihad. Those radicals send brainwashed people to die in Pakistan,Iraq and other countries to defend Islam from unfaithfuls, but in fact the main problem of Islam is in those radicals. That why police of Camden should check that school in order to save many people from wrong desicion and death. Police should do this, but in fact police in many cities of Western countries have not put their finger on the problem.

Whatever happened to religious freedom?
I would be very wary of extremist views, but I think it's wrong to prevent the building of a private Islamic school based on one Christian groups' feelings.

Islamic school or madrassah....breeding ground for terrorists.
Edit:
Well, I guess the Australians have not yet tasted the bitter fruit of Islamic terrorism which the Americans & the British have tasted....oops, I forget, Bali 2002, or was it 2003?

We had the same resistance here in New York with the Khalil Gibran School opening but it was just absurd considering the amount of Catholic schools around here- I don't understand what the problem is-It can only help to strengthen faith and encourage community service

Well if one is needed, it has to go somewhere. I think the locals are kicking up a fuss based on fear of the unknown. Or rather, fear of the media created image of Islam. Really, what do they think a bunch of school kids are going to do? Probably throw rubbish over front fences like other kids do.

The people seeking to build the school are Australians
So the question is : should one group of Australians be denied religious rights given to other groups?
The main opponents seem to be Christian extremists

Islamic schools are a terrible prospect and should be all banned. 68% of Islamic schools in Germany have contained extremist literature. There were also books with incorrect facts and promoting Islamic supremism

Did the Australians ask the Aborigines if they could move in and take over and kill them off? It's mind boggling how an infectious race of people stake a claim on an occupied area and then dictate who else can and cannot "move in".

That is a really challenging question. I affirm your freedom to support the system you believe in, (and things like building a school to promote it) and I also affirm the freedom of a community to say "we don't want this school in our community".
