A woman takes a solemn vow to obey God and keep his commandments, as does a man. All who enter an LDS temple make covenants to obey God.
A man in the LDS church does have a role of holding the priesthood. If he honors that priesthood and obeys God, he would become a righteous patriarch of his family. That does not mean he is a ruler or a dictator. It means he is a shepherd over his family like Christ is to the church.
