Hi, I haven't been to church regularly for a few years, but I used to go on a Sunday and as I am not confirmed, I used to to take my 'service paper' and the vicar would know that just to bless me. Is this a common thing to do across churches? I'm going to midnight mass tonight but not where I live, as am going to partners parents in a different part of the country.

You can certainly just receive a blessing in the communion line if you like. All you have to do is cross your arms over your chest and the priest will know you just want a blessing. If you don't want to do that, you can just sit down while others are going to communion.

Many people who are not confirmed or communicantsgo up for a blessing at the Communion Rail in many Anglican churches but it is good to check with the verger or usher or welcomer when entering to see if this is a practice in that parish

Maybe you feel called to enter confirmation class this year and become a weekly and practicing communicant?

I find it hard to stay up for Midnight mass nowadays.

Happy Christmas and a blessed new Year to you!
