The devil has many schemes going on at the same time. He is at work day in day out.
In the Bible, it reads;
John 8
The Children of the Devil
42Jesus said to them, "If God were your Father, you would love me, for I came from God and now am here. I have not come on my own; but he sent me. 43Why is my language not clear to you? Because you are unable to hear what I say. 44You belong to your father, the devil, and you want to carry out your father's desire. He was a murderer from the beginning, not holding to the truth, for there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks his native language, for he is a liar and the father of lies. 45Yet because I tell the truth, you do not believe me! 46Can any of you prove me guilty of sin? If I am telling the truth, why don't you believe me? 47He who belongs to God hears what God says. The reason you do not hear is that you do not belong to God."

Wow you spend time even thinking about this? Does it matter, must there be only one interpretation of things, ie lying or omnipresent.
What if they are both lying, or if Satan is a modern devil who adopts a team approach to temptation, where he acts as team leader and takes it easy, while the team members run around doing all the tempting.
Who knows and do we need to know. It is surely too easy for an individual to blame Satan for tempting them into doing something they should not have done, when it was their selves who made the decision to do what ever it was.

When people say 'the devil made me do it" what they should realize is that Lucifer is the leader of the fallen angelic race. Obviously, that means there is a hierchy(sp?) at work. He is the principle authority of the demonic forces that are used to tempt us or otherwise pull us away from God.
Satan is not omnipresent nor does he know evrything because he cannot read our minds like God can.
He has, however, been around for a looooooong time and he knows how to push our buttons. He's intelligent and he know's how to get our attention.
So to say, "Satan is tempting me" is kind of like saying General Patton won the battle of the bulge when we know there were also thousands of soldiers under command fighting also.

The arguments that I had used to defend the truth of Christianity were peeled away from me like the many layers of an onion's skin. I put up all the intellectual resistance I could, and winced at each layer's removal. I suffered through dark nights of the soul pondering whether my beliefs might not be too narrow or even wholly false. Imperceptibly, my fears, doubts, and grief blossomed into relief, relaxation, and joy
I call to your attention to the fact that Satan had to manifest himself PHYSICALLY and tempt Eve into disobeying God just as Satan had to PHYSICALLY manifest himself to tempt Christ (who did not have a "genitic sin nature"). Selfish enticement was not enough. Hence, the prohibition of the tree in the middle of the garden was not overwhelming. In practical terms it can be said that they were not tempted to do that which was prohibited. Can the same be said today? I think not. Self-serving, sin nature is now part of our "genetic make-up" so to speak. Therefore, we all stand already condemened because eventually we will sin (John 3:18).

In Christian theology the construct of Satan is not as clear as many people make it out to be.
Generally, they refer to the fallen angel Lucifer when they say Satan, but the term is not that simple in the Bible. Being an angel would give him more power than a human. However, Satan can refer to many things, different angels, an allegory for evil, etc.
Wikipedia has a pretty good discussion of it.

Eyota,
It is an interesting observation that you make, and the answer to that is that satan is not embodied as we are, but remains a spirit and is capable of being felt in more than one place at a time. Just as the suns rays can be felt in many places at once, his evil can also be projected. That gives him a near omnipresence, but no more than any other spirit. Hope this helps.

Satan has wings and he can fly, and they fly fast. In the Older times, they fly to roam about and get to the throne of God in heaven, as in the days of Job. Don't be surprised if he can be in places in one day. but one at a time. He is not omnipresent, but he has ministers and servants who masquerades like him. And not too many a man knows what his form is like, so not all can tell if it's really him or just someone of his messengers.

He cannot. He is not omnipresent. It is my belief that when someone says they are being tempted by satan, a more accurate description is satanic influences.
This could be demons or even humans in his service.
I very much doubt that Satan wastes his time with very many humans.

Satan is a concept (along with heaven/hell) produced to scare primitive people into belief and is used nowadays as a scape goat (the devil made me do it, etc.). There's no reason to believe the devil is actually tempting anyone. It's just easier than saying, "I f*cked up".
EDIT: Well, Too Tall Paul beat me to the punch. Great minds, ya know...

There are demons and angels always fighting.
They are with every human every second fighting.
If you are saved and bind up Satan and ask Jesus to put a shield of protection of Angels around you. Then you have Power because there is Power In the Blood Of Jesus.
