i have to drive from providence, ri, to new britain, ct, tonight for the get together, but i dont want to. what excuse can i make?
i dont want to buy gifts, i dont like long drives, and i did not buy anything to wear. i'll just go on new years eve.

If it's people's feeling's you don't want to hurt, make up the excuse of how sick you are, tell them you have influenza and hold your nose to make it sound like it's stuffed up, then cough and speak groggy. After all it wouldn't be fair to pass on your germs to everyone would it?
Go on boy tonight is your debut.
(Oh don't forget the headache and aching bones)

It sounds like you should just break up with him right now. You obviously don't really like him, evident by the amount of the post you spent complaining about him. Nine months isn't quite a while. And you are in high school. You both sound immature, and not ready for a real relationship. You have bigger problems than a birthday dinner.

Unfortunately, in life, we all have to do things that we do not want to do.
To add to this, it is Christmas !
So be the good Samaritan and drive down there.
As for not having anything to wear. . . .
Who ever it is are not going to take much notice of what you are wearing - unless it is something outrageous or wildly inappropriate.
You do not want to buy gifts ?
The best gift of all would be for you to turn up.
It is likely that when you get there, you will end up having more fun then you thought you would.

You can call and say you have decided to spend the holidays at home and wish whoever-it-is a merry christmas.
You don't have to give an excuse... you don't owe anyone an explanation. You're an adult.

Just say that you just aren't feeling up to the trip and you'll come up for New Years. Any other explanation is unacceptable. I am sure they will appreciate the honesty.
