I do understand and respect that. I've been there, and it takes a lot of thought and prayer to be able to accept God.

BUT it's not hard to understand why that is so.
If a concept conflicts with their beliefs they default to irrational circumvention. Anything you've been taught for a long time and believed in is very hard to disprove no matter how rational the counterargument is. Unfortunately most adults has stop learning and seeking for truth and the childhood faith they have learned from their parents became their definitive source of morality.
Maybe it requires a great deal of intelligence to break through the shroud of religion. Maybe ask our best scientists, inventors and technologists throughout the ages why they happen to be atheists or agnostics. Some wouldn't even admit they are even if obvious just to avoid these topics they consider to be waste of time.
And yes, even if the god of Old Testament is real and appears before me. I will not bow down to such an atrocious god. Seriously the Greek gods are more compassionate, not to mention - attractive.

Hmmm...it's because most Christians are ignorant. The moment a Christian sets eyes on someone, they automatically judge them and feel the need to impose their beliefs on the "non-believer". I can go on a religion discussion all day here, but I won't because the simple fact it's gonna get people on here to justify their beliefs. Anyway, you're gonna see that Christians are very contradicting. I say all this in the utmost respect because I am a Christian and I've seen how people act. Right now I'm in a religious battle with myself and trying to figure out where it is exactly that my beliefs fit in with other religions...and it seems that I get certain beliefs from different religions. Would I get shunned if I stood up in church and said I didn't believe in something that was going on? More than likely because of the mindset of Christians. There have been many horrible things done by religious groups, even Christians, in "the name of God".

the problem, believing in God's existence and putting your faith in that is as useful as believing in cops and still deal drugs and rob banks.
so what really matters? live a good life, forgive everyone, treat everyone as family. yes even the homless and poor, the africans and everyone in need.
do that and you will do better than joining the club of God believers who dont have any difference than before they accepted it.
A judge won't give you a sentence based on your beliefs of his existence..
how do you live your life?
how do you spend your money?
for yourself? or for others?
thats really what most unbelievers avoid, because they know full well that admitting God exists means that they know they will get judged for their selfishness and greed, for their attitudes and their distance from the poor. for their unforgiveness and injustice, their lust, their hatred and vanity.
theres plenty more to list but you don't need a list of the bad things that need not to be done.
love others.. thats as simple as it can get.

I would give a thumbs down to anyone who says they would not bow down to the Christian God if He was proven to exist. That answer shows such arrogance that they refuse to acknowledge a God that exists and created them. That's why I share my beliefs on here but don't try to convince anybody. God does not need to be defended.

I find it doesn't matter what your answer is. It could be the best well thought out answer possible and you would get thumbs down if it is an opposing belief. Even if it wasn't offensive.
I bet I'll get a couple this answer ;)

Believers are insecure in all way of life, and they allow the church to control them and then they become indoctrinated and self-hypnotize themselves into a state of fright and then they do not know how to deal with reality and real life.

Authentic religion isn't really about "bowing down" though, is it?
