Seems only fair if you really don't have any faith at all, it shouldn't matter to you. If you don't want to be hypocritical. I am betting a lot of you who claim to be athiest and slam Christians on Y.A. join right in on the festivities.

OK let the fireworks begin.

Pretty much what I figured I would get for responses,a lot of angry people who are lets face it hypocrits, I know the real meaning is not the gifts and such it is the birth of Christ, I don't care if you celebrate the holiday, just wondering if you thought you should. I do appreciate a few of the honest answers I got. I also wouldn't call non believers ignorant, I would just agree to disagree.

Most interesting way to put it. It makes perfect sense. But have you ever seen any true Christians excluding anyone from their happiness and celebrations? Wouldn't Jesus invite them in and share the good news with anyone in need of salvation? Did He not come for those that are lost?

Actually you have that reversed due to misteachings by tradition.

Christmas is not a Christian holiday nor is in the bible as one of feasts we are to celebrate. It is actually a pagan holiday brought over to convert pagans of that time to being Christians.

Bible is very clear not to have traditions from others, we were removed from Egypt for that very reason.

Bible also mentions the xmas tree and G_D himself calls those who put one up a "heathen", his exact words. The act of gifts is a pagan practice as well. Not to mention placing a baby Jesus in a manger scene is a false idol and again, G_D is very clear, make no image of things above or below.

And if you think I am just nuts... well the bible again mentions that too. That there will be people who will not listen to sound doctrine but instead heap to themselves teachers with itching ears.

Atheists should have the day off, not Christians.

edit: read your bible and show me where it says Jesus is born in Dec, on the 25th, or that we should celebrate it. I can show you at least 10 passages calling you a hypocrite though for celebrating it.

So do you believe the law of man (what you are doing now) or the law of G_D (that I quote from the book)?

Its between you and Him, not me.

What total ignorance!!!!!

It is a celebration of the midwinter festival and other pagan beliefs. As such nearly everyone in the world celebrates it in some way.

The Christians tried to hijack the festivities by claiming it as their day! IF Christ was born, and it is a big IF! then it was not in December but somewhere between March and July.

So funny to see Christians celebrating pagan festivals and ignoring the birthday of their Savior!!!! It also shows that Christianity relies on simple ignorance to keep their flock in tow!!!!!

Are you stupid? So because it's a FEDERAL HOLIDAY I should not be allowed to buy cookies? Are the christians giving out the gifts, or is it the individual families and friends giving gifts to their loved ones? I'm sure the stores will not support your ideas either. This is more of a commercial holiday, than a religious one. And if you want to get technical, it's not even a chrisitan holiday. Damn, now I wish I actually celebrated this holiday.

Only if you want to 'force' Christians to give up all the Yule and Solstice stuff?? Why would you stop someone celebrating what they wish?

I never 'slam' Christmas. I spend it with my family and also distribute gifts to various local charities. I celebrate 'Yule' personally, but don't ever suggest someone else can't celebrate 'Christmas'.

You must have the word 'atheist' confused with 'intolerant bigot'. Projection much?

"OK let the fireworks begin."

Well, I haven't any fireworks, but I'll wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy Yule. Thanks for your accusations. I'll consider them a gift.

UPDATE:

Ooops, I just noticed, you said 'athiest'.

Yep, that's the Christian plural version of spelling 'atheist'.

It's a strawman.

absolutely.

and better yet, I think Jewish faith should work through Christmas too.

I dont take off days during their holy months.

Hannakuh is a day they celebrate a oil lasting longer then humanly possible - wouldn't burn out. - - so, they now give out gifts for it.

Actually, Im kidding - - Christmas is big enough for everyone. The paegans and agnostics have the fat jolly santa, Christians have baby jesus, and Jews have hannukuh and their magic oil. We can all share in the holiday sales.

Atheists aren't the bitter people that people imagine them to be. They enjoy holidays also. I look at Christmas as a time to spend with my family. I could care less about it being the birthday of Christ.

Tommy - Cmon on now. We all know that Christmas is a secular holiday. Where`s Santa Claus, Christmas trees, and eggnog in the bible.

I usually do work on Christmas, actually. I fix computers; and the last time I checked computers don't check if it's a holiday before they break down.

Atheists and Agnosztics like to celebrate December 25th because it is the birthday of one of the most important men who has ever lived.

I refer, of course, to the birth of Isaac Newton on December 25, 1642.
