My friends parents had a total of 5 cans of rum. She wants to know how long it would take for the intoxication to wear off. I know there is no exact number, but an estimate would be great.

I oz of alcohol is metabolized per hour, an average drink or beer. A 12 oz can of rum would be about 12 drinks. 5 cans about 60 drinks. (assuming 80 proof). As far as sobering up after 5 drinks, depends on how fast they are consumed over the period of time, body weight, and intake of food before or during drinking.

Hi, Jessica, back in the day when I drank a lot socially, the rule of thumb is 1 hour of sleep for 1 ounce of alcohol. I guess it wears off if you're awake, too, but you might just keep drinking, & parties get pretty wild sometimes, so it's just a rule of thumb, 1 hour for 1 ounce, Peace!
