I was sent a invitation by Orange County Superior court to serve on a grand jury for a year. What does this mean? A full time position for a year? How does it work? Would I have to put my job on hold for a year?

Interesting to wait to be picked and watch the legal proceedings with excitement.

The same reason they pick random people on a jury, the love of the common man to make common sense decisions, and the idea that if random people are picked it is harder to tamper with them (pay them off) beforehand. Grand jury is something like regular jury you are required to serve on one if you are called. Yes it is an honor but no I would not put it on a resume that would be stupid. "SELECTION OF GRAND JURORS Federal law requires that a grand jury be selected at random from a fair cross section of the community in the district or division in which the federal grand jury convenes. Thus, all citizens have an equal opportunity and obligation to serve."

I would do it. I don't think you'd have to quit your job though, but it really seems like fun!
