I'm looking for a good telephoto / zoom lens for a FD mount camera

Put out a "wanted" ad in your local Craigslist. That way, you can meet the seller and try the lenses on your camera before buying them.
I've gotten a couple of nice lenses for my cameras that way and plan to sell my older slr bodies and lenses via Craigslist as well. One of the big advantages is that ads are free!

Pawn Shops are great for FD mount lenses, look for non-canon lenses better price generally same quality...Bring your camera body try them on, look through etc...the AE1 is a really common camera...
