I have a 40GB PS3 for Christmas from my cousin, but since the 40GB can't play PS2 games, I want to get a 60 GB since it can play most PS2 games.

Not just most, it can play ALL ps2 games. They're only stuck with most in Europe.

If you can sell the $40gb for retail value you could spend another $100 and get an 80gb, which also is 100% backward-compatible.

I got my 60gb for $450 from a cd and game buy-and-sell store. But that was in April
when ps3's were less popular. It may be hard to find a 60gb for under the $399 your 40gb cost, since most owners paid $599 for them. But it's worth a look. Especially if you have ps2 games that can output in 480p.
