Just as a person sticks his finger on an open flame, intentionally or not, he will get hurt because his finger will get burn. With or without faith, the same goes with prayers, ready made or self made ones. You will gradually feel the power of prayers if you are patient, determine, sincere and serious.
If you are having a hard time making a personal prayer to God, then you can either recite and chat the Lord's prayer, any chapter of Psalms, the rosary (for catholics) or just chanting and singing the Holy Names of God, repent it as many times as you can and anytime of day, everyday.

You would be correct. Although, I have heard that according to Christians, god does answer prayers. The answer will be one of three options - Yes, No and Wait. Basically, you could pray to your dog and the results would be exactly the same. With those three options defining an answered prayer, it's actually impossible not to have a prayer answered! Yup, prayer is a shell game.

When a person prays for a certain outcome and it doesn't happen, he speaks nothing of it. However, when his prayers are "answered," it's because "God" has answered them. The rate of death of Cancer patients is the same among those who are prayed for and those who are not. Actually, some studies have shown that the survival rate is LOWER when one is prayed for.
An "answered" prayer is simply the playing out of the laws of probability.

it is not the prayer that works - it is God who works. Just because He does not answer the prayer JUST AS WE want - does not mean He has not answered. I would love God to answer my long time prayer for healing from a chronic pain disease-but instead of answering this yes= He has given me something that I need even more- and that is grace and strength to endure. Prayer does not get God ready to do our will, it gets us ready to do His.

I don't think the prayer works directly but dwelling on a subject can give you time to really understand your problem and then come up with a solution for yourself.
I've seen it at the extreme and wanted to laugh/cry. A woman's car broke down so she called her church friends to come help her. When they arrived, they laid their hands on the car and asked that it be healed. Prayer did nothing for them; she needed a tow truck and a mechanic. True story.

God works. Prayer is simply communication with the One Who works.

Try it and see. You'll need a control for your experiment too. So try wishing and praying. Track the results in a journal and after about 100 wish/prayers each see which one if either works. Make sure that you don't include vague or subjective results.

. Prayer is humbly speaking to God. You should pray to God regularly. Thus you can feel close to him as to a dear friend. Jehovah is so great and powerful, yet he listens to our prayers! Do you pray to God regularly?—Psalm 65:2; 1 Thessalonians 5:17.
2. Prayer is part of our worship. Thus, we should pray only to God, Jehovah. When Jesus was on earth, he always prayed to his Father, not to anyone else. We should do the same. (Matthew 4:10; 6:9) However, all our prayers should be said in the name of Jesus. This shows that we respect Jesus’ position and that we have faith in his ransom sacrifice.—John 14:6; 1 John 2:1, 2.
3. When we pray we should speak to God from our heart. We should not say our prayers from memory or read them from a prayer book. (Matthew 6:7, 8) We can pray in any respectful position, at any time, and at any place. God can hear even silent prayers said in our heart. (1 Samuel 1:12, 13) It is good to find a quiet place away from other people to say our personal prayers.—Mark 1:35.
4. What subjects can you pray about? Anything that might affect your friendship with him. (Philippians 4:6, 7) The model prayer shows that we should pray about Jehovah’s name and purpose. We can also ask for our material needs to be provided, for our sins to be forgiven, and for help to resist temptation. (Matthew 6:9-13) Our prayers should not be selfish. We should only pray for things that harmonize with God’s will.—1 John 5:14.
5. You may pray whenever your heart moves you to thank or praise God. (1 Chronicles 29:10-13) You should pray when you have problems and your faith is being tested. (Psalm 55:22; 120:1) It is appropriate to pray before you eat your meals. (Matthew 14:19) Jehovah invites us to pray “on every occasion.”—Ephesians 6:18.
6. We especially need to pray if we have committed a serious sin. At such times we should beg for Jehovah’s mercy and forgiveness. If we confess our sins to him and do our very best not to repeat them, God is “ready to forgive.”—Psalm 86:5; Proverbs 28:13.
7. Jehovah listens only to the prayers of righteous people. For your prayers to be heard by God, you must be trying your best to live by his laws. (Proverbs 15:29; 28:9) You must be humble when you pray. (Luke 18:9-14) You need to work at what you pray for. You will thus prove that you have faith and that you really mean what you say. Only then will Jehovah answer your prayers.—Hebrews 11:6.

Prayer is simply communication with God. When we pray we are to give thanks to God for what He has done and for who He is. God promises He will take care of all our needs. We have not because we ask not. But this is the Big One....you have got to believe! Believe and receive, doubt and do without. He gives us all a measure of faith. And even the faith the size of a mustard seed is enough to tell that mountain to move and it will have to move. Read God's Word and get to know the heart of God. God has moved many mountains in my life because I believed He would do what He promised. Most people don't believe God for anything when they ask. Ask God to help with your unbelief. Put your faith always in God and never in man. It's important to be still and listen, giving God a chance to participate in the conversation.by speaking to your heart. Find a quiet place, get on your knees, close your eyes and wait and listen intently .Give God that quiet time and see how your prayer life changes.Start at 15 minutes then you'll want to spend longer out of excitement to hear what God has to say today! It takes practice, because everything tries to run through your head at that time. God Bless You!
