No it is perfectly fine. I know a couple black guys named Israel and they certainly are not Jewish. And a Hawaiian guy. It is a nice name.

Being Jewish (and Israeli) it was a strange thing to encounter, but I have met quite a few kids named Israel within the course of my teaching career.
I know they were Catholic, since they were Mexian.
Nmaing a non-Jewish boy Israel may be unconventional, but it is not unheard-of.

There was a boy in my neighborhood when I was growing up named Israel. I know his family wasn't Jewish. People just like the name.

I don't think it's unconventional. My friend named her boy Israel. I love the name. It may affect how people treat him later, assuming he is Jewish if they are anti-semetic, but I think it's a great name.

No but the name Ishmael is much better. From the first line in novel "Moby Dick" "Call me Ishmael." Also Abraham's first son.

No, not at all. Many Christian names are from the Old Testament. Same with Arab names - just different pronunciation...

No. I have friends who are Missionaries and they have a wonderful little boy, Israel.
I think it is a great honor to be named after God's chosen ones.
