if it is swelling and turning red that is bad.....it should disappear if there is no Tb present.....you can get Tb from anyone infected and it isn't just contact. it is spread by coughing and sneezing too. You should definately have that checked. and you didn't 100% have to get it from your bf. Good luck

if his test site is red and swollen, the measurement of the redness and swelling is what becomes important, usually it is read positive at 10 millimeters. This does not mean he has TB, it means he has been exposed to TB. The necessary follow up is a chest xray, that is what would reveal any active disease, and a six month course of medication to insure that he does not develop active disease.
Some people just have a small (less than 10mm) reaction to the base that the protien is in. When he goes in to have it read, the nurse will explain all this to him, I am sure. If he has not displayed any of the symptoms of active TB, such as night sweats, chronic cough or unexplained weight loss, I doubt he has active TB, so no you would not "catch" it from him.

It could be but once you have had TB it will always test positive with the skin test, you have to have a chest x-ray to know for sure. Also a lady I work with has never had TB and yet always tests positive for it. Although it is possible he might have TB it is more likely that he doesn't and he will have to pay for a more expensive chest x-ray and will always test positive with the skin test.

There are strict criteria for evaluating the TB test, but yes, it sounds like he MAY have a positive reaction. If he was born overseas it may be from vaccination for TB. Just wait, get the test read, and see what happens. If he's positive there are well-established treatments--most TB is very treatable.

My grandmother and a man I used to take care of both had positive reactions to their skin tests. They were allergic to the serum. They always had to have a chest x-ray done instead of the skin test.

Sometimes, I slight cold can trigger the tine test to give a false positive. Best thing to do is have a chest x-ray done.
