I'm a soft-spoken, quiet, shy person. At work during lunch sometimes I won't know what to say or will just be in my own world and I tend to fiddle with things like the top of my water bottle - just twirling it in a circle and stuff. Not sure if it's nervous energy or what, but it's just calming to me. Anyway, as I was fiddling with my water bottle one day, I realized a coworker of mine was just watching me and started smiling. What do you think caused her to smile while watching me?

maybe she knows you are shy and what you are doing is endearing to her. she probably knows that u feel uncomfortable and shy and she finds it "cute"

if she knows you can see her smiling, maybe she wants to put u at ease, make sure you know there are friendly people who are there for you, so she smiles at you to let u know you're doing good kid

What do you mean twirling the top of your water bottle? Are you sticking your finger in the water? If you are, your finger has germs. Very unsanitary. Get out of your world and talk to people. Say "Hi". Or, maybe you should work from home if you want to be alone.

The neurotic little quirks of quit woman are somewhat amusing to most people, but I think she was just trying to be comforting. Perhaps she thought you were nervous about something instead of just doing it out of necessity, and only wanted to make you feel at ease. You sound like an anxious person, you shouldn't worry about the messages other people are sending in your direction, just relax and do what you have to do to stay sane.

She might not have been smiling becuase of what you were doing. Maybe she was thinkin of what happened at the club last night. If i saw a cute guy fiddiling with something cuz he was nervous, i would smile cuz thats kinda cute.

No matter, just ignore it. Today, my great nephew called me down twice for staring at his pound cake. I was staring off into nothing...but my gaze happened to level on his plate at the time...he was right in front of me, so it was no big deal....but it was funny that in his 10 year old head, I was staring at his dessert! It's likely your co-worker was staring at some motion in his/her field of vision, and smiling about something that was playing through his/her head. Nothing more. Like get over yourself and your insecurities! I don't mean to be mean, but please take yourself out of the equasion...it's probably not about you!

i'm shy and that i often get rather rather while i like a guy. Somtimes I ll say issues that don't rather make experience, then blush while he responds. i attempt to grin around a guy while i like him. i will factor my legs in the direction of him, and perchance seem at him in many circumstances (yet immediately)

Probably a little bit of jealousy. "Grown-ups" have lost the ability to engage in a focused behavior such as this. I have specifically tried to engage in such behavior to help me remember some childhood experiences and to empathize with children.

In these days when co-worker/s are busy with their work and with own problem, it is very nice to observe that somebody has noticed you, your water bottle and what you was doing with it. His/her smile is really a friendly jesture...might be s/he was curious .... s/he was even interested to have a chat with you ... s/he was trying to catch your attention. All these are welcome...is it not ? Thanks.

If she wasn't laughing at you I think either she could relate to how you were feeling or she thought it was cute or she was trying to show a sign of friendship.
Are you always like that or are you new to the job and feel insecure?
