Standard DVD have only a resolution of 480i while Blu-Ray DVD is six times sharper and better resolution than a standard DVD. Blu-Ray dvd disc only can hold up to 50GB of high defintion information and picture quality is superb.
In order for you to watch Blu-Ray disc and movies you will need to purchase a Blu-Ray dvd player which cost $300 or above depending on the model. Also you will need to have a high defintion television (HDTV) that is 1080p in resolution in order to see the the true excellent picture quality of Blu-Ray movies. If you have a old standard television then the picture quality is just standard and you will not see a difference.
For Blu-Ray discs to run on a pc computer, you will need to have a blu-ray DVD drive. It will not work on standard CD rom drives.

The PS3 is the only console that performs blu-ray, era. The 360 performs standard DVDs striaght out of the container and performs the now defunct HD-DVD format with the acquisition of the upload-on tension. The Wii does now no longer play DVDs in any appreciate without 'hacks'. you will could desire to pay extra for a Gold subscription to circulate netflix with the 360, whether the two the 360 and PS3 have purchaseable excessive-def content textile to observe instead of DVDs/blu-ray discs. Many video games are certainly pass-platform between the PS3 and 360, so which you at the instant are not lacking plenty for people who get a PS3 over a 360 till you're a Halo fan or some concern (which considering the fact which you haven't any longer performed, i might guess would not be the case).

A BlueRay will not play on a DVD player. The Blue Ray is suppose to be something like HD DVD but better quality and the sound is oustanding. a Blue Ray will run somewhere about 200 to 500 bucks. But if you buy a PS3 you not only get a playing system, you will also get a Blue Ray player.

No Blueray is differnet and a lot more expensive but you can tell the difference when you go to a bestbuy or something and they will show you the difference. No, blueray will not work with a dvd player but a dvd will work with blueray but it wont be clear like a blueray. Depends if your computer is blueray compatible.

A pressed DVD is 9GB - recordable w/ one layer of standard size is 4.7 (actually 4.3 due to the difference between decimal and binary measurement). Blu-ray holds 25GB per layer (can hold up to 10 layers currently - maybe more in the future).
DVD is MPEG-2 720x480p24 resolution
Blu-ray is MPEG-4 (most of the time) 1920x1080p60/120 resolution.
The laser aperture of a blu-ray is much smaller than that of a DVD laser - meaning more information can be crammed into a smaller space - allowing for more capacity on the same sized disc.
You can play DVDs in a blu-ray player, but not the other way around. You can even record a DVD encoded in MPEG4 for about one hour and actually get HD quality in a blu-ray player. Some camcorders record in HD on a DVD-RAM MPEG-4 for playback in blu-ray players.

A DVD hold ~4.5 GB of information which is not enough for HD. A Blueray player holds ~50GB which is more than enough room to support HD as well as extras and such. You need a Blueray player for Blueray for standalone or PC but it will play DVDs.

Bluray discs will not work in a standard DVD player, nor a computer that does not have a Bluray drive.
They are a much higher capacity disc format; similar to how DVD's are superior to CD's.
