i've been in love with my best friend for 6 years. he's really, really shy..and he's never had a girlfriend before. we're both 17 now and senior year is next year, and then we're going separate ways to college. lately, though i'm just as shy and could NEVER think of doing this for real, i've been wanting to tell him. just go up to him and say "i love you" and tell him. he's so awkward and weird about that he'd be soo scared off, but i don't care. now honestly, even if you all tell me to totally do it and he might have the same feelings and we could fall in love or something, i probably won't do it after all anyway. i just need some reassurance that if i do it, it won't ruin both of our lives. and that i won't be making a huge mistake. has anyone ever had to tell their BEST FRIEND they were in love with them?

I have the exact same problem as you. I've been in love with my best friend for ages, but I've never told him. Honestly, just go for it. If it scares him off, and he decides that he doesn't want to know you anymore, that's his loss. If you're also leaving for college, then this is your chance. Now or Never.

I was in the same situation as you but i tried to play it off like i didnt like her.. of course she saw right through me and things were a little bit akward at times but i never gave up and eventualy we started dating and are still together today (2 years 4 months). I think that when you have a relationship with your best friend that they are more stable and potentially last longer because its not just physical attraction... you just love being with that person, and that makes everythign easier. Dont get me wrong though the physical part makes everything better but its nice to have something to fall back on. Good luck

Hey listen, just tell the guy if he is your best friend you will be able to tell him. If you don't you will regret it. Actually yes, recently I told my best friend that I loved him and now we both like eachother and we are going out and it all worked out fine. Sure I thought that it would be weird to tell him but I HAD TO!!!! I am SOOOOOOO happy that I did!!!! Tell him!!!! It was an AMAZING feeling to get that off my chest, tell him. And don't think that it is akward, you are the only one who can make it akward. Now, I can't tell you how to do it because I don't know the guy and I don't know how you should do it but good luck!!!!!! Just do it!

Yes. Every guy I've EVER had a crush on was first my best friend. And NONE of my friendships were ruined by confessing my crush - our relationship changed, but it was not negative. What's the worst that could happen? Give it a try. I hope this gives you some courage.

ask yourself if you really do love him... and if the answers yes then you should ask yourself if a chance at being with him is better than a chance that it would be weird and awkward :P

i say do it... i havent had to tell my best friend before but i had a good friend... and u saying hes never had a gf before than you dont need to worry about what happened to me (she still had feelings for her ex and even though she liked me she liked him more)

i say if you love him than whats worse... having this secret kept inside haunting and killing you everyday or letting it out in the open and being free?

Take it from ive dated a really good chick friend it end really bad. We no longer are talking to eachother. If I could change that very point in time. I would have turned her down. I miss her more as a friend then as a gf. There where things I could tell her as female friend then as a gf. She was my best female friend.

If you are best friends, then you should be able to tell him that without fear of it ruining your friendship. At worst, there will be a couple days of awkwardness, and then things will get better.

Think of it this way... if you tell him, he at least has the option of saying yes. If you don't tell him and senior year passes and you go your seperate ways, you'll never know what could have been.

Yes I was in love with my best friend and he continues to punish me for divorcing him.

Don't confuse friendship with love.

Go ahead and tell him that you have strong feelings for him. And see what happens. Kiss his cheek. and smile.

then see what happens
