I have a question, does anyone know where Deer mice are located? I hear they're mostly in California or Mexico. I was visiting relatives in Wisconsin, and they had a slight mouse problem.

Because fo a cat and 2 dogs, they use poison in the basement and live traps where the pets are. They sealed up the area they thought the mouse was coming from,

yet they caught 4 mice in all in the live traps which I released since I'm not skiddish. But I know deer mice can carry diseases, one deadly disease called Hanta virus.

now I'm probably sick with the flu, but a day or 2 after trapping the mice at my uncle's I'm sick. And I've been sick now for 5, going on 6 days.

normal house mice don't carry the virus. Its mostly found in Deer mice, so I want to know if deer mice are in Wisconsin, just for my peice of mind. ^_^ here are pics of the mouse.

White-footed mice and deer-mice both occur in Wisconsin - can't tell from the pictures what species it is. Anyhow, there's only been one confirmed case of hantavirus in the state, and that was more than 10 years ago. You don't easily get hantavirus from handling mice (unless you put you hands in you mouth after handling them). Hantavirus is typically contracted when the virus is volatilized and breathed in.

You don't need to worry about having hantavirus - since 5 or 6 days have passed since infection, you would already be dead, or close to it. People infected with the virus are usually incoherent within 24 hours of the first sign of symptoms, and often dead in about 3-4 days unless they are lucky enough to get on a ventilator before slipping into a coma.

You say it's young Probably too young to be out of the nest I have seen this behavior in many young mice and rats and squirrels The merciful thing to do is drown it The cruelest thing to do would be to release it in the wild Don't let it die a slow painful death just so you can sooth your conscience By the way mice don't drink water, they get all they need from their food, but then it could just be a baby rat Oh yeah Start setting mouse traps out now They are never alone

If you have been sick for more than three days, especially with a fever, call the doctor for advice. Do what she or he says to do, and be sure you drink a lot of clear liquids because dehydration can really make you sick.
