For many, this is a time for joy. But many know war, hunger, and poverty. I'd like us to all join in for a prayer for aid to those in need, whatever it is.

You see, prayer has led to a call for action. I hope you see my point.

A prayer,
May the divine light of life and love be realized both in the "Radiance" within and the "Radiance" without. May we find the oneness of God through the unity of the love that is inherent in all things.
There are many paths to the one truth. To realize that our vision only beholds one perspective of that divine "Radiance" limited by our capacity and that our brothers all behold the same "Radiance" within the limits of their capacity. To share the common love we all behold is the path to peace.
There are certainly enough who will wallow with you in exploiting the perceived differences in Gods Holy books. We pray for more to join with us and start to exploit the things they all have in common. In this the deeper truth will reveal its self.
Behold the "Radiance" of God is found in love.
Amen,

Hi, an end to all those horrible things is really desirable. We all want that.
If you are familiar with the Bible, it says that humans never will be able to do it. 1 Thess. 5 refers to the false peace men will make right before God's kingdom takes over the earth and causes real eternal peace and an end to poverty, war, crime, violence.
But while we live in the rule of human governments, all should do what they can to be good people and help others. Gal. 6:10.

even I can wish for that. I'm also going to throw in a wish of good fortune for all those traveling this week. With the snow and bad weather and crazy idiots on the road lets just all hope everyone gets where they are wanted safely.

Or, instead of doing something absolutely useless, we could act on our convictions and perhaps aid those in need ourselves.
Prayer is wishful thinking. Action proves intention.

Yes, thank you for that. Obviously not everybody here is religious, but perhaps the non-believers can "wish" for peace. Couldn't hurt.

Why? I hate to be the realist, but it won't work.
I think our efforts would be better spent doing something productive, like donating money to some charity or something. Prayer seems like the lazy person's way of pretending to try to save the world.
