How come when i download a movie just the sound plays and theres no picture?

It's probably an AVI file, so go download DivX. It's free and works great at playing almost anything. If its a codec problem you can go here http://www.free-codecs.com/download/K_Lite_Codec_Pack.htm
and download them. All of its free.
