i need to site it in out to 250 yds but i only have about 50 yards at my house to shoot it

250 yds is a stretch for the 17, but if you're sighted in at 100 yds you'd have to hold 8.5" high to be on at 250, and that's not allowing for ANY crosswind.
You would want to be .1" high at 50 yds. That would put you .3" high at 75 yds, zeroed at 100 yds, and 2.6" low at 150 yds.
Check specific ballistic charts for the ammo you're using. The 17 HMR is a flat shooting round, but I try to keep my shots at or under 150 yds.
I have had some nice shots with my Savage 93R17-F with a Tasco 6-24x42 target/varmint scope.

The only way you'd ever pull 250 yards from a .17 is on a day with no wind and you stop the rotation of the earth.. kidding lol
