1st time I had friendship w/a professor gone desperate. I was as fault, but my mom still called him the devil. Then I had a boyfriend, he only stayed sober while we were dating, mom didn't like him but afterwards says that she really did like him. Now I like this man that has all the right stuff and she doesn't what to hear it. I don't have my mom's support for this area of my life. Can anyone offer objective advice?

Perhaps you have a pattern of picking men your mom doesn't like.

If you're picking men specifically *because* your mom won't like them, that's a bad way of picking. It's as bad as dating men just because your mom would approve.

You have to separate your dating choices from her opinion. Hopefully she'll learn to respect your decisions once they're not about her.

First one professor--was he older or desperate?

The second one the devil-drunk and desperate?

Perhaps, you are picking up men that are not into dating and got serious problems sobriety problems and not sure in your case if you are picking men really older than you as you mentioned professor.

Maybe ask your Mum what sort of guy you should be bringing home? She is probably worried you are going to fall in love with a loser when she knows you can do so much better
