What is happening when you hear the noise The sound is most likely parts moving against each other, you have to figure out which parts. could be engine components which is doubtful. most likely steering or suspension related. or ancillary parts s,run off the belts in the front of the engine,just behind the radiator(and bumper). if it is making the noise when you steer it is in the suspension if it makes the noise when just running it is in the engine or fan belt run components.if your into old cars its probably worth $800. but they haven't made Darts for a while and parts can be scarce.200,000 is a lot of miles ,for a car from that era

I wouldn't get it cause you will have a problem one after another. As you said it sounds like their is problems with it now. Dodge Darts are cool. But, If I were you a would get a reliable car. A car you wouldn't have to work on all the time.

If you are NOT a DIY automechanic, you don't want that car.
It is more important for you to get a car in good mechanical shape over a car in good body.
===
Most old cars must be maintained (read: many constant fixes). It may cost you $800 today, but you will hand out few times that at the mechanics shops.
Good Luck

If you have friends or relatives who can help you fix it/teach you how to fix it, then yes, it's worth it. Particularly a 6 cylinder. I mean...a V8 might be worth more, but the slant 6 is one of those legendary engines that will be still be in working order after the last human has had his bones picked clean.
If you don't have a good place to work, and you have no experts to give you advice IN PERSON, then no, you should not buy it.

if you want an around town cruiser, a fixer upper like a Dart can be great! if you are looking to take it on the highway or to the beach, etc, I would look elsewhere. a 30yr old car with 200K isnt gonna be a highway monster.

yes, if you don't buy it, you're crazy. the noise you hear means the engine needs to be rebuilt ($1500), but a body in good condition for $800 is a steal!

in case you.have a job, get a clean vehicle that expenses around 20-25k. There are some effective automobiles around that fee like a Chevy Cruze. Mazdas are not that costly the two and that they are fairly effective automobiles. Get your mothers and dads to help you fiscal a vehicle.

Plan on rebuilding the whole car with that many miles. Depending on the year and how many doors it has. Yeah it's probably worth it.
